Urgent Help Needed- HP Desktop Will Not Boot - Page 2

I uploaded a few more images... not sure if they'll be much help (I don't think very positively :-P), but here they are.

Well... I'm still not sure why my computer won't want to turn on, but I did find out one thing... See that unplugged wire in the last image? That would be the reason why my card reader wasn't working. So yea, that wasn't the problem. I'm still not sure why my computer wont boot properly though (and by not booting properly... I mean it wont boot at all). Well, any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.

This is a stupid question. When you took the PSU out did you accidently turn the switch off on th back of the PSU?

Are there any extra wires comeing out of the PSU that arent plugged in?

I actually tried to flip the switch because the first time we did get it to stay powered on, it wouldn't turn off. For some reason, I didn't know how to flip this type of switch... It wasn't really protruding, seemed like I needed some type of tool to hit it.

We didn't hit any switches on the power supply. As for the wires, there is one wire that plugs into the dvd burning drive I installed (labled P3) and then branches off into a loose wire (labled P8), and there is another wire coming directly from the psu plugging into nothing (labled P4) which branches off into another plug connecting to my main hard drive (labled P5) which branches off into another wire plugging into my floppy drive (wire labled P6). P3, P4, and P5 are the larger ones. P6 and P8 are the smaller ones. So yeah, the only wires not plugged into anything would be the ones labled P4 and P8

Im thinking that something is being shorted, since it powers up for a few seconds and then turns off, dont think anything is damaged, which is a good thing... But i dont understand whats exactly shorting the electriscity.. so im gussing a plug isnt in, or you bent a pin on possibly something, causing it not to boot. (Once, im my floppy power pin was bent, and it took me hours to realise that it was the problem... wouldnt let me boot. >=[ ) Just fyi, next time when your putting in a drive, put it OUTSIDE THE CASE.. like..

You take the existing drive from the inside out by sliding it OUTSIDE the case, and put the new one where the old one use to be.. alot easier.

P2 is connected to my dvd-rom drive and P3 is connected to the dvd burner. I can get the dvd-rom drive to open, but not the burner. So I tried switching the wires. I connected P3 to the dvd-rom drive and P2 to the burner. Strangely, the dvd-rom drive still opened, and the burner still wouldn't open.

Well, we were going to do that, but genius over there(Otoshi) told me that the front panel did not come off, and he had tried already for a while. It wasn't till after that that we saw the sticker on the bottom of the case "3-STEP FRONT PANEL REMOVAL".

Alright people. I got the computer checked out (these people did it for free). So yeah, turns out the mobos busted. >.< These people are evil... He told me, "We can replace the motherboard for you for $300." Honestly, i dont know what he was thinking... he told me it was about $200 for the part and $100 for labor. I honestly think that's insane. For that price, i can buy a nice AMD compatible mobo and an AMD 64 processor, and still have about enough money to buy a new case as well (Ah, the power or newegg.com). Well, only problem is, i can risk busting my computer again. The guy there told me to never do work on a computer on top of carpet. Which may have been the problem, Amped and I were on my carpet. So I think I will buy the parts myself from Newegg and install them, it will be much cheaper that way, and i will have a fairly nice computer.
