Neakuh on XS was going to use a block of 4 TEC's like yours but it was for a chiller not direct die.
I think thicker is better longer time for heat to reach the tec, more middle ground for heat. my cold plate was only 1/8 of inch thick, I'm pretty sure the
recommended is 3/8 of an inch.
the problem with the big of block is it covers any holes to mount it over the cpu
there isn't much in the am2/am3 socket some barely have one or two capacitors. there.
