Xfi.. worth it? - Page 2

I really doubt that 64megs of ram will be used on a soundcard. Maybe for encoding etc but I wouldnt really know since I never do that kind of thing.

My main concern is audio quality and removing the sound processing load off of the CPU. That is why I got an audigy 2 ZS. It has great sound quality and an onboard processor.

I just dont see how a soundcard can/will use 64 megs of ram...

And is BF2 surround sound?
i think this has been mentioned but get fatality
if you aren't into xram and just want to buy a great sound card get music pro (i think that's what it's called)
fatality basically has everything

It can only be used in a video game with specific coding written to utilize it. It can't be used for encoding and decoding movies, etc. Some day this will be used, I have no doubts about that, but I guessed that by that time, I'd be onto a new card so I got the cheapest one. There is definitely a sound quality increase,so if you have 100 bucks burning a hole in your pocket, I recommend getting one You could sell your old one and recoup a lot of the expense or toss it into a second rig

ps just by getting the x-fi series you'll see a 5-7 fps change (better).
well what xram is is that it takes the sound things off of your rams (in the ram slots) and puts them right onto the sound card. Only some games support this feature at this current time, but it'll prove very helpful later on.

Edit: the x-fi totally beats the sound blaster zs, it can create surround sound with normal earphones! that's crazy... argh can't find it, check the most recent pc mag.

You get that increase with any soundcard that has an onboard processor.

Which is any audigy card and the x-fi series. Audigy 1+, Audigy 2+ (including the value) and the x-fi's.

BF2 sounds friggin' great on the x-fi card. i absolutely love it. the hi-def sounds are amazing. also, i have zero problems with my x-fi and my Asus A8N-SLI, so you shouldn't have problems with the premium board.

sorry complete sound noob here , but the guy who reviewed these cards (the guy from pc mag) says their better so i assumed that this was the only card that had improvements in fps.

Most of the larger Motherboard manufacturers have released Bios versions that fix problems with the X-Fi. When looking into it before I bought one, I found that MSI had a fix,but DFI did not. I don't know about any other companies, but have heard that most of the larger ones have fixes in their newest BIOS. Btw, the above poster is correct in stating that headphone listening was dramatically improved.
