I've known 3 people with SLI setups in my life, and 2 of them had it funded by their parents.

I have SLI and it certainly wasn't outside funded (although I did fund my 9 year old daughters' computer). I'm about to pick up two 7800 GT's. Why? Same reason I got the hemi engine upgrade in my chrsler 300.

I personally believe SLI is worthless. So you think you're saving money by getting two 6800gt's in SLI for $460, huh? How much was that 7800GTX again??? Yeah, not much more. Instead of wasting $460 on old technology, you can pay $20 or so more and get the latest piece out there with all the extra special features, and in ONE CARD. Having one alone also saves you money on the electricity bill. At the end you pay the same toll to take the dirt road over the paved road, only to get to the same place.

Put it this way, if my mom is paying for my rig i could care less how expensive it is cause it's not my money. If i start buying the parts w/ my own money then thats different scenario cause i have to look at my other expenses before buying a particular parts

Even if it's not my money and is my "parents," money I wouldn't buy SLI just to have bragging rights. Doesn't it seem a little bit too shallow to say, "Oh since this isn't my money but my parents, I'll just let them spend stupidly on something that I don't REALLY need." Seems pretty shallow and retarded to me.

From what I've read in this topic so far, a lot of money don't know how to use their money wisely. Spending extra $400 for a piece of card that you can get same or better results is pretty pathetic IMHO.

It's not really shallow. Why do people buy FX chips when they can get a cheaper cpu?? Does it mean that their shallow???

Shallow meaning that you take "advantage," over your parents.
