People aren't pissed off because they can't afford the best of the best, they're pissed off because they see kids that (practically) lie to their parents about the performance for price ratio in computer components just to get them to buy a high end system when hundreds of dollars if not thousands can be saved from buying a different but equally powerful system. Besides, I don't think you've ever admitted wrong that you've done or said, so why continue arguing about it?

Hit the nail right on the head there .

Although I have 2 Geforce 6800GT's, I bought the second one because it was the next step in upgrading my computer (got the 2nd one 2 weeks ago, built my comp back in January with the first one. Now buying 2 cards from the start would be stupidity). Yeah, yeah, "OMG ONE 6800GT CAN HANDLE EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW!", but can it handle Adobe Premiere Pro and Vegas nicely? Not really . And 2 cards also makes my games run at decent frame rates at 1280 x 1024 with 4x AA. I wanted to fully utilize my 19" LCD monitor. So sue me!

Oh, yeah, and I paid for everything, BTW.

You dont think I know the value of money? How do I not know the value of money? I HAVE no money. My parents cant even afford to buy me something for my birthday. I likely am gonna get maybe 1 thing total from my parents this christmas, im getting nothing for my computer, likely alot of clothes and maybe a video game... Im not spoiled, I know the "value" of money, so dont even begin to say I dont.

im gonna say that i would go for 1 gfx core instead of 2, just because i think its overkill, plus it doesnt make sense in the long run. im running through all the calculations for it, but if you bought 2x 7800gtxs now, you would pay.a.lot. it could handle everything, hands down. however, i bought a x800 pro a year and a couple months ago, modded it to an xt (luck, pure luck) it cost me $400, but this card can still handle everything out there. the only game i have to turn down is Fear. but still, for $400 it was a good buy. just one card, but it'll last another 2 years before i replace it. then ill probably pay another $400 for a top of the line card. why pay 1600ish now?

My parents never bought me anything, in fact I didn't even have my own computer until after graduation. I bought it with my graduation money in 2004. I grew up with a Pentium 1 with Windows 95 my whole childhood. I envy those who are 13 year olds and are getting SLI rigs for Christmas. I had an X800 Pro but that wasn't cutting it for 1280x1024, so I got a new mobo and a 7800GT. Nvidia though is getting ****y with the SLI thing. Go to the website, all you see is SLI, SLI and more SLI!

Just to clarify something, and I think most everyone will agree...

I am not saying that having an expensive rig is a bad thing. Or if you're parents will spend 1,000's of dollars on a computer for you. None of this is something to be ashamed of. If you or your parents have the money to buy an fx57 and dual 7800's then go for it. No one should tell you what to do with your money. The concern comes from people who blatently take advantage of family members in order to get a minimal increase in happiness while their parents end up paying greatly for it.

Think about how much happier that extra gfx card makes you? Is it worth the money? Possible financial stress? Being dishonest? Is it worth regretting spending 1500 dollars on a computer in 2 years when you want a new car or to take a vacation with your girl friend?

Unless you resent the money your parents spend on other things, or have a bad relationship with them, you will realize that pissing away their retirement is very irresponsible and unrespectful.

Jeeze, now everyone with dual 7800's will feel like a-holes, sorry. Like I said before, only under given circumstances is it bad. Just be considerate.

How many people here actually have a full parent-funded rig anyways?

Well I am 16 years old, and I think I know the value of money fairly well. I have been saving most of the year, and this Christmas I am going to put all of my money in with all of my Christmas money(thats all I ask for) and I am going to get my big yearly upgrade. It's really about half and half, but the money I do get for Christmas isn't just from my mom and dad, it's from most of my family.
