Some say "Future Proof" is why to got SLI.
Well, SLI is going dubble the speed and it's here now ... an example below...
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...44&modelmenu=1
So where does that leave the current SLI 8x setups.
Everything keeps changing so what is "future proof"
Since few games support it and the cost is "Bragging Rights" relative when will it all end, NEVER, thats how they have us buy (pun intended) the wallet.
The only SLI boards worth the expense would be the true 16x if you, DARE I say it, want future proof
As we say in my neck of the woods "What ever blows your dress up"
No, I've no bragging rights, except that I refuse to sucumb to the mongers who produce equipment that far exceded the needs.

The problem with any dual card setup is that an equivelent single card is typically cheaper. I see things like SLI and crossfire as a very expensive way to go beyond what is offered by the top cards.

I like dual because lets say you buy one 6800, one day that card wont be able to keep up with current games, so instead of buying a really expensive card you buy another 6800 which by then will be cheaper.

Nope. With the new drivers, the BIOS versions don't have to be the same. Besides, if you really wanted to, you could flash the old card to the new BIOS .

SLI and CrossFire are overkill and redundant in my opinion. Unless they can make it cheap enough for us poor bastards in the "mainstream" market to buy, these technologies will only be for, as some said before, bragging rights. No current software needs that much power. And for those saying that "I can buy one today and add another latter" all I can tell you is that technology, especially video cards, moves rather fast and their is no way you can ever keep up unless you have a bottomless bag of money replication +10 (sorry, couldn't resist). Say you have one 7800GT now and plan to get another in like a few months. In that time frame it is a certain thing that at least 2 additional generations of video cards will be around. So now you can either get your additional 7800GT and be out of the loop or trash your old card to get a current generation one, which will very likely be far more advance an loaded with many more features than that "obsolete" 7800 in your box.
