core i5 750 max temperature

Thread Starter
Does anyone know what the max safe cpu core temperature for the corei5 is? I assume its similar to the core i7, but I'd like a definitive answer.

Edit: I did read the sticky at the top of the forum, but it honestly left me more confused than anything

I'm using HWMonitor and would like to know what are the max safe temps for Core1-4 on the individual core temp readings.

OK thanks.

So according to the sticky thread, Thermal Specification = Tcase max = 72.7C?

According to this doc, Tcase max is 111C? A bit confusing.
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/designguide/322171.pdf

And using HWMonitor, I'm guessing Tcase is TMPIN2 since it is approx 10C lower than the individual core temps.

I guess as long as I keep TMPIN2 around 72 it should be ok right? That means core temps will be approx 82.

It would help if you updated your sig rig to reflect your actual "current rig".

Make sure you know the difference between Tjunction Max and Tcase max.

Tjunction will probably vary between different processor steppings.

Tcase is the temperature as reported in the BIOS. The readings will differ.

Hi

Ive recently built my first rig so im pretty new to overclocking, but I reckon I have all the enthusiast parts (without going overboard) so ive decided that it would be a waste not to overclock it a little. Im looking for safe operating temps aswell, Ive overclocked my i5 750 up to a constant 3.2G by simply changing my BLCK up to 160 - I only wanted to have my ram running at 1600 origionaly, however in doing so this obviously speeds up the processor aswell. Since the core clocks itself up to this level using turbo mode, I figured it shouldnt do any harm, and why not just have all the cores running at this speed all the time? So now that everything seems to be running fine, ive realised that I should have a look at the temps to make sure that its not going to unexpectedly melt on me one day while playing Metro2033 (which is a complete Fu#ker of a game to run even with my 5850). Ive downloaded coretemp, which shows everything nicely, and then ive ran Prime95 to see what the temps go up to under full load and all my cores are hitting around the 80 c mark, give or take a few degrees.

What does anybody reckon?

Im completely new to this so any advice would be greatly appriciated

Hi!
I have also clocked my i5 750 to 3.2 ghz. Ram @ 1600mhz.
Run Prime95 with max heat option and temps below 47c all the time. do you use stock cooler?

Thanks for your reply,

Yes its just the stock cooler which you can hear spinning right up, its obviously crap when comparing to your results and has me worried! Only now can I see how much a better an aftermarket cooler is, and really needed! As Ive said I havent had my rig for very long, the first time I ran prime was only for 10 mins and temps were hitting 85, so I took the rig apart, tidyed all the cables (cable tied the sh$t out of them) and put my fans on medium (you can hear the cpu fan over them at minimum anyways so why not).

Then I ran prime again for 2 hours, since thats what it says to do in the overclocking forum, with temps now staying around 80, there were no errors, so it must be at least stable, just hot! I doubt 2 hours at 80 degrees is anythng to be worried about, and it only realistically reaches them kinds of temps in prime95 but I obviously need a new cooler which im going to order right away. What kind have you got as it seems to be excellent. If you tell me you only have stock im going to cry lol. To be honest I dont even know If the overclock is worth it as quad core cpus are really powerfull anyways, the only thing that our overclock would benefit would maybe be games that use all 4 cpu`s, but I dont think there are any that need that kind of power yet, or any that we would notice the difference with yet!

I also have turbo disabled as I didnt want 2 of the cores reaching 3.8Ghz!
I may turn my overclock back to norma,l untill its really needed (when I purchase another 5850 in a year or two, perhaps the overclock results would be more beneficial)

However saying this, Im not sure if its my mind playing trick but im nearly sure metro2033 is running better! (then again ive also put my card up to 775/1125 allowed in CCC so that would probably be why.)

For anyone interested my 5850 runs metro DX10, very high settings, and I play it at 1280 x 720 (thinks its that) as at this setting it runs perfect and very fast, looks amazing, and I dont believe DX11 makes any noticeable difference or even running it at 1920 x 1080 - just slows everything down, im still playing at a High Definition resolution after all. Cant wait to see a DX11 game thats not just optimised for Nvidia cards. Ati need to get the finger out with regards to the drivers!
