I would not overclock to far with the stock cooler, you can get a pretty inexpensive one that will preform be a black and white difference.

I noticed a good improvement going from 2.5ghz to 3.0ghz, however going from 3.0ghz to ~3.4ghz provided a much smaller increase. Many users say that you only need a quad core processor running between 3.2ghz - 3.4ghz for good performance.

If you can run 1280x720 on a 1920x1080 monitor and still be happy with the image quality more power to you. I personally have to run everything at 1920x1200 or else it looks like crap. I will even turn down settings to stay at the resolution (except textures). Do you use scaling or run w/o scaling?(stretch the image to fit your screen)

Noctua nh-d14 it's the monster ;-) But 80c is'nt so high temp i think. it's few people that need to use their pc like prime95 does.

Ill take your advice and get a better cooler, Ive read I only need to spend about £30 for one witch will do the job along with the heat transferring paste.
Yea im pretty happy with having 4 cores each at 3.2! thats like having 4 pentium 4s lol (my old rig! such a jump), I dont think ill bother stressing it too much with a further clock even with the cooling, or do you think its all ok if the temps are low enough? If so then why not overclock as much as possible, i would just be worried about the processor having a firey premature death.
Yep I use scaling so that the image fills the hole screen, had to tinker around a bit with CCC to find the options as I was getting about a half inch space around the image. Quality and performace wise Im sure all games are different, I would play battlefield with everything up full 1920x1080 as it runs perfect so I havent tried any lower, I only downscale for metro for performance and dragonage as text and icons are tiny on a 40 inch screen lol especilly when siting on the sofa.......Ive tested metro with all settings and resolutions since I wanted to be able to have everything at its best, but at 1920 even dx10 it slows down a little, only a little but im not happy unless a games running silky smooth and everything up high...........but I honestly cant tell much difference between resolutions, but thats maybe because im sitting too far back. Do you play metro with your 5870? just curious as to how it runs since its a ***** of a game. I agree you gotta have all the textures up nice an full .

Thanks Otl I feel a bit better with your clarafication on the temps, I dont think 80 is too bad but still it should be lower, even if its not realistically going to reach those temps. You english is fine mate all feedback is good lol

Would anyone care to tell the best i5 cooler for under £50?

Hi,i Have Thermalright MUX 120,core i5 750 on 3,2Ghz too.All cores at full load on 67°C(63-69).The thermalspec on intel is a temperature,you shouldnt go over.So all temperatures under 72,7 are Ok...probably,i will overclock more now a bit...

i just recently built my first rig and i cant seem to get a solid max temp for my i5 and my speed fan program wont quit flippin out and its only at 60C so if i could just get a good solid number i would be quite happy

54 or 56 celsius, (don't quite remember), max temp in prime95, 8 hours torture test
ambient temp ca 23c
