You don't have to tell me, my stock XFX 4890 runs on the toasty side as it is now, I shudder to think how a nearly 400w heat load on air cooling would work out... Then again perhaps it's time for the first ever GPU to have a waterblock as it's stock cooling solution. Though a few newbs would undoubtedly think it's just a new fanless GPU.

My guess, this is merely ATI throwing out some false information. It wouldn't be the first time...

I hope they still get a 5850x2 out the door fairly quick, they can probably afford to hold off on the 5870x2 for a few months.

That is pretty high if it's true, but it's an extreme graphics card and therefore you would expect a very high TDP, maybe not that high but not far off it. It wouldn't surprise me much if this was close to the truth.

Thats what I was thinking. This makes no sense but it is Fud....

But this could be AMD trying to downplay their(possibly monstrous) 5870x2 and lull nvidia into a false sense of security as they did with their original R700 arch. Which if you recall, they(AMD) leaked info stating that the 4870 had 480 stream processors... I think we know how that turned out. Now I'm not saying that this is the case but AMD/ATI have been pretty coy in recent history, so who knows?

How much does the consume GTX295 @ load?

Seems like the figures here are a little exaggerated. I have no doubt ATI will figure out how to get the load TDP down with out a performance hit.
