No need to go buying the latest video card or the most expensive CPU. Applications can only run so fast after all. Do I think the XBOX360 is a great piece of hardware? Yes I do. I would love to have the graphical and processing power of that thing. However, PCs will always have the edge. Why you may ask? Software and the ability to OC. On a PC you can upgrade drivers for your components increasing their performance; you can't do that on a console (althought it would be rather cool). On a PC you can change graphical options for games to get the best performance (they may not look as nice but can you really notice when you are blasting away at your opponent?). Finally their is OCing. Does your CPU need extra muscle? Just slap in some better cooling and overclock to your hearts desire. A PC can do anything a console can, you just need to know how to do it.
At the end of the day it comes down to preference. I prefer PCs because I can not only game on them, but thinker with the thing from time to time, and I prefer the games on the PC market. Consoles are great but not that good.

While your right about buildiing a decent gaming system. But im saying your not gonna out perform a 360 with that budget. 360 is the best gaming machine period! for the dollar.

Read the whole thread man. Its the xenos. And Its a totally different card than anything ati has out right now.

Lesee... The Xbox 360 has an R580, $579, and a tri core processor that runs at 3.2GHz, so you could pick up a 3.2GHz P D 940 for $450, a micro ATX motherboard for about $120 and 512MB of DDR2 (the Xbox360 uses 512mb of RAM) for about $25 and an 80 gig SATA 150 hard drive for ~ $60. Lets see... That is a little more than $1000, and is just barely going to under perform an Xbox360, so you are right.
Microsoft sells Xbox360's for dirt cheap, and looses money when they sell them, THEN they get you when you buy an Xbox 360 game for $50-$60, then tack on Xbox live. And that is where Microsoft gets there money from the Xbox 360, it is not the console itself, it is the games/media/peripherals.

Bah, I got better things to do then read the whole thread. But yeah, the Xbox 360 GPU is very similar to the R580, but it runs at 500MHz, and uses 256 MB of video RAM, and it only runs a 256 bit external rig bus, compared to the R580's 512 bit external rig bus.

Yeah your right about that. I heard they never intended to make a profit on gaming. That its just part of their plan to get into everyones home through internet (xboxlive)

But who knows only time will tell.

I think they are called "Unified Shaders" and it has 48 of them. The article posted earlier on this thread explains it.
The XBOX360 may be the most powerful console out there but you forget the fact that most people do not have a HDTV. Their is only so much detail you can appreciate on an average TV set. You "need" high definition to fully appreciate the 360 (and the PS3 too for that matter, probably not the Revolution).
