Computer problem

Thread Starter
Here is my friend's computer specs:
AMD 3700+ san diego
4x1gb G.skill ram
120gb hard drive
Epox 9npa+ mobo
7800gt graphic card
420W stock case PSU

stock (no overclocking)

I built it for him but hes having problems:

1) He freezes while loading Painkillers game
2) He freezes on de_train in CS:S
both problems require him to hold the Power button to turn off
anyone know the problem? maybe the PSU? or maybe the 4 sticks of ram?
better off taking 2 sticks off?

||one time his computer turned off.. the lights on teh sides are dim... and he cant turn it back on.. i told him to replug the power and it worked again||

ANY help would be good THX

It's gotta be the PSU. Your telling me that all of that runs off of the PSU that came with the case? Get him a new PSU before he fries something:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103936 - $66

/\\ That will fix the problem

I would say it's an unstable PSU. Most cases come with cheep bad PSUs, he has awesome system components and they may not be getting enough power or are unstable because of the PSU. So get a new PSU is my point

If you replace the PSU and its still having problems, check the ram timings in the Bios & sometimes theres problems with nforce 4 boards accepting 4x 400mhz sticks of ram, but it does sound like PSU problem.

Not enough, he needs 24A + on the 12v rail
Good PSUs are not too expencive, it's the heart of the computer so get a good one

As I mentioned earlier... 24a is the recommended minimum with 1 power dependant vid card.
Do you have an adiquate PS to swap in to confirm the issue to him?
I'm sure you will find it's the PS that is causing the issues.

I'm amazed you can even start that monster up with a 420W as it is. Get like at least a 480W, dude.
