7800 gtx 512mb vs quadro 4400 ?

just wondering how the new 7800 gtx will hold up in cad programs compared to the quadro 4400. thw 512mb gtx sounds rather impressive, althought its not designed for cad do you think it could out proform a quadro 4400? both in sli ofcourse any ideas?

i wanted to build a workstation that i would also use for gaming, the quadro 4400 will be good for cad handle games fine for me but if the 512mb gtx will close to the preformance is cad(once overclocked) yet own in gaming. then i might aswell just go for the 7800 gtx 512 in sli. and someone crazy might end up finding a mod for the gtx to quadro anyway.

i wouldnt count on the gtx to quadro mod. i dont know much about cad gpu's but i would imagine a gtx 512 would at least do ok, but if it was your livilhood it seems a good idea to go with a quadro.

You'll find someone mod a 7800gtx into a Quadro about the same time that you find a way to mod my walkman into a car. It's never going to happen. As far as comparing a 7800gtx to a Quadro.....you can't really. How would you compare a Corvette to a Hummer performancewise? The Quadro is used in surgical applications, cad, etc at resolutions that aren't even possible on gaming cards. They have completely different purposes and are developed to excel at their general use. Using a Quadro for gaming will have poor results and using a 7800gtx for true CAD design will also have poor results.

quadro's will not be poor at gaming, ok faire enough they wont be the fastest thing ever for gaming, because there simply not designed to be, but they certainly wont be bad at gaming. i was looking for the best compromise of both gaming and CAD. as for being a mod for the gtx to a quadro, there isnt one yet, and im not sure how tricky it would be or if its even possible. but people have managed to mod older cards into quadro's

Usually Quadro's are based on regular cores, the 6600GT and 6800GT have been known to mod into Quadro's and increase in performance slightly, so there is a chance... But i havent heard about anyone doing it.

thx for the replies. i suppose i'll stick with having 2 quadro's, i could just sell them if the 7800 gtx 512mb turns out to be the best compromise. thundarchronic will your gtx be the 512mb version? could you let me know how your system goes so i can compare when i finaly get mine sorted.
