What games like 2Gb ?

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
I already have 1Gb of PC5400 and a 6800GT-256Mb -> probably soon to be a 7800GTX-256Mb.

I have read repeatedly here that BF2 runs much better on 2Gb.
Are there any other games that come to mind that run much better with 2Gb under the hood ?

I would be running at 1600x1200 resolution.
Does my PC's RAM quantity affect higher resolution output/speed, or is that more dependent on the GPU's capabalities ?

thanks - Andy

FEAR likes 2 GB too. BF2 doesn't run any better really, but it no longer stutters when you first get into a map, and also loads much faster. Aside from that there's no difference, but the lack of stuttering is great, as is the advantage of being the first person to load the map .

running a higher resolution depends on the graphics card mostly. PC ram speed can greatly effect resolution output speed and other stuff also how much you have can smooth out gameplay. 2Gigs is a plus to many games including BF2 and FEAR, and many more to come. It might be more cost effective for you to get another 6800GT since your all set to go with SLi.

There may not be many games now but if you look at the history of computer gaming you will notice that what is enough today won't cut it tomorrow. In maybe 6 months I will say most games will require 1GB minimum and 2gb recomended.

UT2007 will likely be 1GB minimum...but you will need 2 GB to play it decently. I don't know if its true, but I read somewhere that you may need 4GB to run it smoothly.

Fear like 2 Gigs. Battlefield also like 2 gigs. 2G of memory also futureproofs your PC. in a year, all games will require 2g min.

I would doubt 4gb, but I am sure there will be restrictions on the type of ram. PC133, obviously, wont cut it. It will require newer, faster ram in comparison to the old ram. Stuff like pc2100 will likely perform terribly while DDR2 may be able to show off its bandwidth muscles (hopefully by then latencies will be much lower, too).

We all will be crying about the system requirements for that game when it comes out. I am already saving for a monster rig I am going to build to play that game and games that use its engine.
