Failing video card question....

Thread Starter
Would it be possible for a bad video card to run fine on the simple 2d applications like firefox or your desktop or typing and the such, but then cause the system to crash once the 3d applications like games or 3dmark03 starts? Namely my video card? Sorry, still trying to hunt down whats wrong with it....

It is possible. Have you oc'ed your GPU? or adjusted the PCI-e freq?

Video cards actually have 2 processors in them. They have a 2D and a 3D processor. If the 3D processor dies, and the 2D processor still works, then you can still use the card for 2D applications.

have you maybe got driver issues, try some different drivers, you havent got an auto overclock when entering 3d application that does a massive oc and crashes the system?

Yeah, I was on the phone with tech support for 45 mins today with them. We are just trying to make absolutely sure it is the video card that is broken and not something else software related or something like that.

I hate RMA'ing things....

so its been to the shop and what happened, same prob still, what about underclocking the whole system or even just the vid card and see what happens, have you got a faulty power connector going to ya vid card maybe, change that over, is the card seated properly in the pci slot, maybe its not in all the way and on a dicky angle, maybe ya bios is having serious issues with the card maybe......
