P4 662 questions....

http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archi...051114comp.htm

This was an Intel press release circa 2 weeks ago precisely. It says that the P4 662 is out now and costs $401. So, I have a few questions.

1: If this is out now, why can't I buy it from newegg?
2: Is this CPU 65nm?
3: It supports virtualisation, am I correct in assuming I have NO use for VT?
4: Why is it cheaper than a normal 660?

Thanks lol.

1. not a full release yet
2. 90% shure yes
3. not shure...
4. im not shure, probably cheaper to make than the 660, or mabey they had a hard time compeating against AMD this year (lowering the price to compete) They are the same processor in a way that, they have the same cache, FSB and processor speed

check the diagram out

I think the prices you are quoting are the wholesale prices. I believe the retailers mark it up from there. If you read the last line it says those are the prices in 1000 unit quantities, meaning you can get it for that price if you order 1000 pieces. I'm not exactly sure what VT is, and don't know if software will take advantage of it or not.

VT or Virtualisation (as stated in the press release) is a thing that allows a single CPU to run multiple programs or even separate OSes in separate sections of a CPU. This is good for things in the IT industry or in large companies IE having a single CPU computer handle requests for a large number of computers, like as in a network or something, I have no use for this and I was only interested in this CPU for its 65nm size. Also, it is only cheaper by $8 lol! Also, this is otherwise identicle to a 660, 3.6GHz, 2MB L2 cache, EMT64 etc. I think I may just get a 660.
