P4 3.4 GHz running hot!

Thread Starter
I have a Intel Pentium 4 3.4Ghz HT 550 LGA 775 Processor

Now i made a mistake and bought the CNPS7000B-AlCu LED (http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...?idx=148&code=) Zalman Fan but it doesn't list it or recommend it for Intel 775 CPUs only 478s.

My CPU runs at 50c Idle and 63c After playing Half Life 2 for hours! Im in need of new gear but i want to over clock this baby to 4Ghz "to join the club"

Is there a good air fan around that would do the job if not im planning to purchase the zalman res. 1 PLUS because it is fanless.

Thanks

for 4Ghz on air, it will get quite noisy, best bet IMO would be a Thermalright XP-120 with a 70cfm(ish) fan, you may even be able to do it on your current HSF. TBH the Zalman res. 1 will get beaten by the XP-120. I know you want quiet but you are gonna need some fans on a w/c setup to get much over 4Ghz (maybe a custom built w/c system). Hey I managed to build one on my own, with no leaks yet lol. My Custom w/c Got my 560J to 4.5Ghz.

Did you use thermal compound(AS5) on the heat sink?
With those temps either you need better thermal compound or you don't have the heatsink seated properly.

That heat sink should cool just fine.

Are you overclocking to 4.65 with this heatsink? If so I'm impressed. What are your temps?

I am actualy overclocked to 3.645 not 4.65. LOL, you cannot take this CPU to 4.65

My temps are 38 to 40 on idle and 45-49 on full load. I also use this machine as a webserver, SQL server, Development workstation, and Terminal Server(hacked trmsvc.dll. Search google for more info.) So i can run burnin software on 2 simoltanious accounts and still stay less that 50C :-)
