Overclocking 3.4 LGA 775

Thread Starter
I have been messing around with my motherboard and trying dome serious over clocks. I managed to reach a 4.114 Ghz clock but got too ambitious after that and lost those settings when I tried going to high. Now I cant e ven get close to that. In fact, I cant get a constant clock to happen twice. For instance, I tried going 220 x 17 @ 1.375 V and acheived a stable boot. Then I restarted to go higher 225 x 17 @ 1.375 V but it failed. Then I could not get t he 220 x 17 @ 1.375 that I just had. I have a MSI 915P Mobo and a water cool ing system that keeps the temp at around 30 celcius. What could be the problem of this inconsistency?

please fill out your system specs, found in user cp(top left corner of page> edit system specs, so that we can be able to help you and discuss your computer, also you need to mention what other methods you are using to overclock, what you have disable, enabled and what you have your memory at. Thanks and welcome to the forums!!!

Alright I filled out the specs. I still cant find a settings that produces a constant result. I am thinking that because the mobo optimized the timing on the memory, that somehow that is thwarting the plans. Or maybe not. I have no idea. I am fresh out of ideas.

What are you memory timings? And do you run dual channel memory or not?

well see here is the problem, my mobo basically automatically times it without input from me, I can do it manually but what timings would I use? once i choose manual i basically am on my own with it. MSI is like that, dunno bout other manufactures that might have different setting presets but mine doesnt

also what general voltage settings should I use with what frequency. I mean I had it running at 242 x 17 once stabely but I dont know what voltage. The ratio tells me to go 5/4 FSB/DDR but my mobo wants it 1/2 FSB/DDR. An then what timing?

You need more V for the CPU.
I am rock solid at 4.148 GHz ( 244x17 ) at Vcore 1.5750 and Vmem 2.0
I'm also good at:
240x17 Vcore 1.5125 and Vmem 1.9
243x17 Vcore 1.5625 and Vmem 2.0

I have hit a wall now at 244x17 -> can't get anything stable at 245x17

my limits are as follows (these are boundaries set by Mobo):
DDR Freq: 333 or 400
DDR Voltage: 2.5-3.3
Vcore: 1.3375-1.5500

And your settings did not work. I think it is my ram. What do you think?
