Dual core or not

Thread Starter
I am going to build a comp pretty soon, and i cannot decide between dual core or a single core. I would get the Dual core 830 or the Single core 650or640, Which will overclock better? Which will run games better before and after overclocked? Which will be a better overall processor? OR whould i go to an AMD? I will use it mainly for gaming and some photo/video editing. Please help????????

You will find a lot more AMD support on this forum. They are the most popular and when it comes to dual core, amd wins hands down.

The 3800+ is a great over clocker and can be had for 300 dollars.

What about just single core, is amd going to be better at vid editing, and gaming? Also which will over clock easier?

I have only owned one p4 and it that was a while ago. I personally think amds are easier to overclock and overclock better. How much money are you looking to spend? And how long would you wait before upgrading again to a different processor?

For single core the 3700+ is a great choice.
For dual core the x2 3800+ is another great choice.

If your on a budget get dual core 820 Pentium D or 3800+ X2 No point in getting a single core cpu since dual core beats every benchmark againts single core

If he upgrades in less than a year then a 3700+ would fine. Dual core is the future though, so it would probably be the better investment.

If you looks at Sladesurfer's profile you can see they overclock like mad.

I wouldn't upgrade again for a about 2 years or so. I was looking at spending around 200 (American) for processor, dont mind buying ebay one. Will a pentium d 820 over clockwell, I had my sights set on intel, since that is what i Know. I know Amd has lower clockspeeds, but how do they compare playing games and vid editing without ocing?

It is a common belief that AMD is better for gaming and Intel is better for editing, however both require at least a gig of ram to perform well. If you like Intel then go with them. You won't be able to get a very good dual core for 200 dollars though.

What is you're current processor?

well if you want to know how amd stands in playing games look at the graphics benchmarks section in this site... amd has won hands down...

for $200 on a proc, ebay a 3700+, maybe if you're lucky you can find a 3800+ for 250
