SATA Power Plug vs. Standard Molex

This has been bugging me for a long time. I don't understand what the deal is over the new SATA plug. Is there a performance difference if I use the SATA plug or if I just stick to the old Molex connection?

This can be helpful, theres a lot more lines going to it so I'd assume that it would be better/more stable power for the drive.
It has both so people without the Sata connector can use the drive.

Hmm..I saw the spec of the power plug, so I should be using the SATA power plug? I have one on my OCZ Pstream, so I'll be using that one.

did you see the sticker on the raptor that says not to use both power connectors at the same time as this could cause the unit to malfunction bit?

because it reduces emi by distributing/splitting the power outside of the drive instead of on the drive's pcb, the reduction isn't really noticable though...

The SATA connectors are also designed to allow hot-swap operation... assuming that the OS is not installed on the drive or they are no in a RAID-0 Array, something that cannot be done with a Molex and IDE cable.

And only one power source should be used if a SATA drive has both Molex & SATA connectors ..

refering to your other post: I'm surprised you didnt burn those raptors up

*****, me too...well I DO have the side panel off, so thats probably why =X, maybe thats another reason they make crackling sounds when under hard work like defragging or virus scanning?

I'm not 100% positive but I think its being standardized now in order to support larger cache sizes in future drives (sata 6.0gbs)

Buy this and you won't ever be bothered with the noise again
