Building Cheap Computer

I'm building my sister a cheapie computer for christmas since she is getting tired of our old P2 333mhz. I was thinking this:

CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103537

Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157081

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440

HD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822135106

PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148027

DVD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106988

Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811154017

I have an ATI Radeon 9600xt AGP that I'm going to put in for video, since she doesn't play games. I'm also looking for two 90mm QUIET fans to go into the case.

Any suggestions/better prices would be great.

Thanks!

Here is my thoughts, take them for what they're worth, (which usually isn't too much)

Cpu: I would pay the extra $12 and get a 3200+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103535

Ram: Here I would get PQI Power, for the money you cant beat it (you can easily run it higher and with tighter timings than stock)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141164

MoBo: I would go with gigabyte for this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128307

Now the dvd burner, case, and hard drive i would all keep the same

I wouldn't bother with upgrading the power supply, the only reason cheap ones get messed up is because they need to be hooked all up first, (dont just plug it in). If you are absolutely set on upgrading the power supply, (not a bad idea really), i would go with this one, it is very, very quiet and cheap, (you dont need anywhere near 500w, I only use a 350w):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171007

If you dont include the ps, my setup is $403.72 compared to your $456.18
before s&h (note: even with the coolermaster ps it is still only $437.67)

Well, I hope i helped you out somewhat, but everyone has their own views and ideas...

if you look closely at the power supply you picked out you see that the extra four pins can be pulled off, making it both 20 pin and 24 pin
(it even says 20/24 pin)

I just threw that motherboard in there because my parents bought it and i replaced the one that they fried (not a clue how, was msi). I dont know about other people but i didnt have any problems with it. You could probably find a better one though, I just stuck with what I knew.
That cooler master ps I mentioned above is very quiet (also in parents)

What does the case use for fans? (I'm using rosewill fans right now and pretty happy with those).

edit: I looked in reviews and found that it uses (2) 80mm fans.
I bought (4) rosewill 80mms and like those, the only thing is the wires aren't sleeved or anything, (dont know if it matters), plus the rosewill are only $1.49

ok, this guy doesn't need to OC his sister's work computer.

I didn't see your suggestions, but if she uses it for Word and office, get her a
---Sempron64 (socket 754) 2600+, 1.6 GHz for $64,
---512MB of generic RAM $40,
---BIOSTAR 6100 mATX mobo $60,
---Try the mobo's integrated, but my friend had trouble with it. Try it, if you have trouble get a cheap vid card like the X300, $50.
---80GB HD, $55
---dvd burner, $55
--- Cheap mATX case with PSU with at least 250W/13A on +12v rail (I recommend Foxconn) $45 shipped
---Floppy $10,
---WinXP Pro, free. go to any LAN party with a blank CD and ask for the ISO

Another reason i was going with that mobo is for the option to upgrade the videocard to pci-e in the future should she start playing games.

I think its two 90 or 92mm fans. I'm just looking for cheap/quiet fans with less then 5 dollars shipping.

nice, cheap build. I was sticking along the lines of his first build.
just a couple of things, he already has a video card and a dvd burner would only be $40 (plus $4 s&h)

sorry i read it was (2) 80mm's

Well I'm trying to keep it around 700 total with OS. So I don't need to go that cheap, and I want to keep it semi upgradeable in case she wants duel core down the line.

I have never been to a LAN Party :***:
