PSU died today...

was playing need for speed most wanted when all of a sudden my monitor went idle and my bright case leds went off, i was surrounded in darkness!
then i smelt it...you guys know what im talking about......immediately i reached for the computer plug and pulled it.
the smell fills up the room...

minutes later i open my pc and inspect all the hardware, my hard drives, optical drives, graphic card, ram modules, mobo, and even took off my hsf to make sure my poor cpu was still alive. i sniffed everything, but nothing smelled of strong burning, until i sniffed the top right of my case.
yep you guessed it, my psu was burning! or was already burnt .

anyways thats my story, so i was wondering since i pulled my power plug so fast, do you think there any chance, small or big, that any of my hardware could of gotten damaged by my psu blowing up?

thanks, i will make sure tommorrow after i buy a temporary psu.

TDK 450w
the only abnormalty it had before was the +5V rail going up to 5.27V
and +12V going as low as 11.36V and as high as 12.1V, while the +3.3V rail rarely fluctuated by even .05V
also my +12v rail had 28amps

That 11.36 would've spooked me. How long have you had it?

built computer aug 04, so little over a year. so no chance at the 1 yr warranty.

also the psu came with my case at compgeeks.com for around $30usd(cheap lol) so maybe the psu being cheap is a reason for its failure.

also you know if TDK is even a good psu brand, or is it just some cheap crap?
i thought TDK made blank media like CD-Rs .

anyways thanks Chim3ra for helping me out.

It's probably just because the PSU was of less than spectacular quality, but it made it a whole year. Hopefully nothing was damaged inside. I'm not sure of the TDK's reputation as a PSU manufacturer but I'm with you, I thought they just made recordable media. Maybe for a new one I'd consider something with the same amps and wattage, because from the looks of your system it doesn't look like there is anything causing a huge drain on your system. I've had a Coolermaster Real Power 450 and it's been working great for me.

Chances are your components are ok. I fried a psu by flipping around with the voltage switch while it was on and the only thing that fried was my psu!

I doubt anything was harmed, I was the former owner of an Enermax Noisetaker 600W. These (if you read Newegg reviews) were a bad model from a good company, and were known to explode. My first one did within 10 minutes of first startup. When I say explode, I mean VC grenade style. Shower of sparks within my case. All my other components I've had since then (late July), and have worked fine. You should be alright. Usually if a PSU fails, you will get a momentary undervoltage (sag) before it blows, which won't hurt anything! Either way, you'll know when you get a new PSU and fire it up, until then I would go ahead and let your butt cheeks loosen up, you should be fine.
