So there is some hope for not needing six ridiculously expensive adaptors to use DVI screens... to be honest, though, it would be nice if there were some cheaper DisplayPort capable monitors available as well.
The problem is monitors chose HDMI for awhile because Sony won the HD war, and HDMI is there standard.
We should see DisplayPort monitors roll out soon once computer LCD's roll back from there slump, as Display Port is an Open Standard and does not require them to pay royalties.
Though, it still confuses me as to why ATi used DP1 on these cards. What you are referring too (no Active Adapters needed) is called DisplayPort + (DP+) and has been out for over a year.
