Does anyone have any idea whether or not ATI has any plans to do any sort of firmware/driver setup to allow the 5000 series to use multiple monitors (3+) without being required to use display port? That just seems silly on their part. Their diagrams show that all the channels can display, so why did they make it absolutely require display port? Based on those diagrams of the channels, seems to me that they could just enable it to work via DVI, DVI and HDMI for 3 displays on any of the 5000 series. Is there rumor/news of them trying to update it so that display port isn't an absolute requirement? It wouldn't be so bad if it were not for the freaking $100 adapater--that's just stupid, I'd rather buy a whole new monitor than spend that much on an adapter because at least I can use the monitor for a lot more after I get something else later down the road, where as an adapter is absolute trash after you're done using whatever required it (and seems to me that everything in the future is wanting to move to display port... very, very slowly).
Here's hoping we can either get a) cheaper adapaters, or b) some kind of firmware/driver update to allow triple monitors without using display port.
Ok, so after watching that HardOP review, they said ATI told them specifically that they're working on getting a display port adapter certified working with a 3x DVI setup, which is what we all need who do not have a display port monitor/tv. I for one use HDMI (primary tv), and two DVI monitors for my tri display. So an adapter is needed for me. I'm glad ATI is saying they're going to work on getting an adapter out fast. That means others will try to do it, with generic brands. And that means lower prices. I'm just waiting to see a non-$100 adapter. Like $20~30 is totally cool with me. So I'll watch to see it get released. Then I'll get a 5850 and overclock it. The only other thing I may wait on, is the 5850x2 if it gets made, and what price it will be, since a dual GPU card with eyefinity can actually make use of the dual GPU where as it doesn't work with crossfire.
