ASUS A8N-E Questions

Thread Starter
hello everyone, man i love this site. it is like my second home (well, sorta).

anyways i get to the point...

Q1: For my new rig (S939) i ahev chosen the ASUS A8N-E mobo, i was just wondering on the overclockability with this board. E.g. Easy navigation of BIOS, alot of settings (you guys all know what i mean).

I am pairing the mobo with a 3700+ SD and some Corsair XMS3200 1gb kit (2.0-2-3-6, i think... correct me if i'm wrong )

Q2: I have figured i can get 2.4 easy, 218 * 11 = 2398Mhz, or higher without much effort (i hope). Do you guys know what temps i can expect from the stock cooler @ those speeds? i dont think i have to use a divider (not entirely sure though). Do you know what speeds i can get the RAM to run at 240Mhz?, what timings?

Thanks alot guys for your input, greatly appreciated! Reps to go around for useful answers for both of my questions and if they are in detail.

Boris

Its a good board and stable.
But wont give you as many options as a DFI and the voltages are pretty low.

The voltages are low but you should be able to get the oc you want. The bios is fairly easy to understand and every thing is adjustable that you need too. You should be able to run it under 55 degrees wth the stock cooler (my x2 at 2.6 runs at about 55) No divider should be needed, my cheepo ram runs at 237. You may have to loosen the timings to 2.5,3,3,7 to run at 240 or above, it will just be a hit and miss thing. Maybe with the right voltage you will be able to have your timings tighter than that.

i had to RMA mine, the bios was messed up, was the culprit of both my ram issues and network adapter issues... kinda pissed, but asus was friendly about it atleast, but i havent gotten the board back

about the actual board, the bios is really easy to get, it also has this like failsafe where unless you go WAYYY over what you should be you can boot to the bios (hard to explain) without haveing to totally clear.. my old mobo didnt have that

and you can get a lot more than 2.4 out of the 3700 sandiego, you cant get 2.7 stable easily

How will this board compare to the ASUS A8N5X?
I have this same board and chip and absolutely love it. Im running at 2.750 250x11 or I can run it at 270x10. great overclocking potential for these sandiego cores. if you dont have 170 bucks to get a good lanparty board this is definetley a good buy.

thanks guys, really...

I know a fair amount about OCing and i have been here for quite some time, but this rig will be my first AMD pc and i am very excited!

I was wondering could one of you guys please post (in steps, e.g. #1, #2, #3) how to OC a 3700+ SD on an ASUS A8N-E to 2.5Ghz... please?

Also from experience (this is a mock up of the actual OverClock) i know this much:

#1: Raise HTT to (in this scenario from 200 to 227 = 2497 > 2500)
#2: Raise Voltage (if needed), BTW how much would i need to raise it to from stock? also, what are the stock voltages and in what increments does the A8N-E allow?
#3: Drop HTT multi from 5 to 4
#4: Raise speed of RAM from 200 to 227 (to keep 1:1)

Am i forgetting something??

I know that you guys will say "read the FAQ's" but i have read them all (well, most of them)

Could you guys please help out a fellow OC'er?

thanks alot...

Boris
