Temperatures affecting stability?

Thread Starter
I have had my new computer for around a week now and so I decided that it was about time that I started playing around with this thing .

I have gotten as far as overclocking the CPU but not as far as playing around with the ram, Im running a divider on the memory (Still at stock 200MHz).

Currently I have the CPU running at 255x11=2.805GHz and 1.5V, I have been able to complete 32M SuperPI once and another time failed on the last loop.

Im getting temperatures of around 51-55C (44ish idle) and am wondering ARE MY TEMPERATURES AFFECTING STABILITY?

The HSF is installed properly although I havnt added any thermal compound, which BTW does anyone have anything to say about the thermal compount that comes with the SLI-DR?

Thanks a lot for any comments

Use arctic silver 5, most people here swear by it. Yes temperatures do effect stability but I don't think your are. You may not be running enough v-core.

Your temps are typical for that overclock, doesn't look high enough to affect much, but yes try bumping the v-core just a little bit. Also download Prime95 (very good for testing stability), if it is still unstable/can't complete super-pi then try slowing it down a little bit.

what is ya ambient temp, thats a high temp for idle but i get an idle temp like that on a hot summers day so we need to know both temps, ambient and ya cpu temp.....

Also, if you haven't applied any thermal paste, then I'd say those are pretty good temps. That's probably why your idle temp is so high. Put on some AS5 and I'll bet you the problem goes away.

Well if you have'nt added any thermal compound then your temps will be high

also , pumping up the vdimm can help stability, even though your still running the ram at stock speeds.

Get better cooling and as5, 50c is pretty much your safe limit.

Big typhoon will drop those temps about 7 to 10c.

Thank you very much everbody,
Im trying to get my hands on some AS5 as well as looking to buy a Big Typhoon.

Unfortunately I cant measure my ambient temperature but as I believe I mentioned, my room gets quite warm at night. Im finding that my temps are at or bellow 50C in the morning so maybe I just need to open my windows more often

I'll try increasing the VDIMM although I had already increased it to 2.8V

BTW jrabb, what sort of VCore are you running? And at what temperatures? I ver much like the sound of 3GHz on air
