oc'n and stops at detecting hard drives

Thread Starter
I have a p4 3.0 ghz northwood processor, and ecs 848P-A motherboard, 512mb of ddr400 oc'd it to 207 cpu frequency, which is equivalent to a 3.1ghz processor, goes to boot up and stops at detecting ide drives. Anyone have an idea what Im doing wrong? im a noob so take it easy lol.

If you back off to 200 does it still freeze? If not your memory or memory timings may dislike the +7 (actual 14mhz) jump. Try playing with the timings, or just run it at stock.

Well that ECS board with the 848P chipset isnt made for overclocking... And i dont think it allows you to raise your vcore. The best thing you can do is to get a new one, shuch as an Abit AI7 or an Abit IS7. They are a good deal for your buck and will take you farther than this ECS board will. Also please fill our your Computer specs under "User CP" in the upper lefthand corner. Thanks

Same thing happened to me. I overclocked my celeron D and windows couldn't detect my onboard audio(ac97). When I back it off to its stock speed, everything went fine.

Yea, the ECS boards really can't handle the stress (even if it is a few extra MHz over stock) which is probably why you saw errors in your sound sam.

I assume you motherboard doesn't have an agp/pci lock?

When you overclock your cpu, you are overclocking your pci bus as well, and pci devices don't like that very much.

A good chipset like the Nforce3 250 will have a pci/agp lock so you can overclock just the cpu/ram.
