OverClocking: P55 Asrock Extreme + Xeon X3440 + Dark Knight - Page 2

Thread Starter
okay after a few hours of doing some serious cable management, reconfigure my case from positive pressure to negative pressure, and adding a push/pull setup to my dark knight, i was able to knock off about 10c to my temps on full load from linx @ 3.8ghz with 1.312 volts

i idle pretty well, 50% load is under 50 c, and 100% load with linx, about 76c, i believe this is the best i will get out of this heatsink and cooler setup, if any one has any suggestions, let me know.

i am thinking of going water, but i will hae to save up for that for awhile, this is not an option right now, unless some one wants to buy the dark knight, i might be able to afford the cpu block LOL, but no pump or rad or tubing for that matter.

i'm thinking of ripping out the heater core out my Lincoln, since it is not running atm and use this cm 775 cooler block i have laying around...but on second thought, i know there is a very good reason why i haven't used the cpu block before, but the reason eludes me atm...i think it leaks...

but that is what i get for buying the whole setup at a garage sale for 30 bucks LOL.

so i guess i am in the market for a new cpu cooler, i would like to keep the dark knight, but if i have to, i will sale it and get a megahalem or something, i am just terrified by its size tho, the darknight isn't very big, but i have trouble fitting it on this board cause the ram, mosfets heatsinks, and pci-e 16x slot are all almost touching the Dark knight...

the fans i currently have on the dark knight, the white led fan that came with the cooler and another xigmatek cooler that came with the standard s1283, the white led one is my push, and the standard one is my pull.

i've remounted the cooler about 4 times today, and it made little or no difference in temps, i am using the xigmatek thermal paste, which i have found to be cheaper and on par with most of the TMI's out there, and i 've been using it for about a year now, done a better job that ACS5...i'm thinking of picking up some of the diamond dust paste any one have any expeirence with that stuff? is it worth the premium?

i'm honestly thinking of buying some scythe fans for the kooler and building a mount bracket that slides on and off from the cooler. similar to what i have with the xiggy's fans.

that is all folks, thanks for reading

I also stumbled on your thread while looking for a cheaper alternative to the i7 860. Just ordered the X3440, and its on its way. Seems you are having quite a good time with it.

Hi people, I have a x3440 with asrock p55 deluxe working@4GHZ but i didn´t check it stable because i´m at vacations in the south of portugal. I just build the new rig in last thursday and only test it on friday @4ghz with HT on and all the tests had run very well..
