ATI mfg - x800 XT PE Overclock

520/560 is default from what I can remember from this morning at home with ATI Tool - tested the max with ATI Tool and it left me with around 545/559 with being very stable.

Is this average for most XT PE users and will it make a noticeable improvement in framerates?

Any other advice I can get for this particular card? I have the Artic Cooling aftermarket heat exhaust system for it already.

Eh I just read somewhere that turning off overdrive is necessary for ideal performance gains - I had it on while it was looking for Max Core.

Also noticed somewhere that there is a Max Memory button as well - didn't see that as I was getting ready for work while it was doing its thing.

with the Artic Cooling you can OC your graphics card core up to 15% of the meter

So 15% of 520 ? That's 78mhz higher than stock, so like close to 600mhz ?? What if I'm getting artifacts (I'm assuming these are errors) at around 550 or so ? Don't want to break anything!!

Once you get artifacts then dont oc any further.

Alright - do drivers have anything to do with artificats and clock speeds? I just noticed I have Catalyst 4.9 - downloading 5.5 as I type this. Is that a bad driver set? Should I notice a big leap in frame rates in any particular game or setting?

When you open ATI tool, just click the Max Core, it'll pop up a warning, read it and if you are cool with it hit ok. It will then start to overclock your card, just leave it for about a half hour or so and it'll detect the best overclock for your card. If it senses any artifacts it'll back it off until it finds a safe point for it to operate at. Once it does, click stop or abort (I forget which one they use), and repeat with the Max Mem button.

You should be using the 5.11s, there are some instances where you'll get a better overclock with new drivers.

Yes, you should notice it. They are more optimized for their cards and tend to work better.

Hope I'm not driving people crazy with all my questions - but I've looked around on the forums for other users experiences with overclocking my video card for reference. Is there a good idea of what I should be setting my core/mem at before I even start testing?
