Cold cathodes are just lights behind a second tube of plastic to keep the heat inside so it doesn't raise your case temps. Check out Xoxide or newegg, under most of the lights they list their specs so you can see what's better for your needs.

I think you will find that cold cathode tubes provide much mroe even light distribution than LEDs. If you can fit them in your case, they will probably give you a better look.

There are also these light patches that work out pretty well too, if you are tight on space.

LED's are used to focus light in a specific Area...
Making the case Nicer to look at...

When you use Cold Cathodes it looks like a fish tank...
