How do YOU use Prime95?

Thread Starter
Hi all, I have been using Prime95 for some time now to test for OC stability. Since the program is used to test for stability it would make sense that other programs should be able to run "stable" with Prime95 running. Prime95 runs at low priority by default which also backup the idea that other programs should run ok with Prime95 running.

So do you guys run other programs when stress testing with Prime95 or not? From my experience, it seems that Prime95 runs longer without anything else running. I have recently started using Prime95 for its intended purpose (checking for big prime numbers) and have found that it is much more likely to crash when I am folding or downloading torrents, even though I passed a 24 hour stress test.

Your thoughts???

Small FFT @ 1 hour for initial stability testing, then Blend for 8 hours or so.

Blend, some of everything. But I stopped using Prime95 a while ago and went with IntelBurnTest.

Great guys, but did you actually read my post or just the title? I am asking about running other programs while running Prime95.

I just run OCCT it's like Prime95+Coretemp+CPU-Z all in one.
I use Prime95 to check my CPU a bit(Small FTT).
then a LinX test to check the RAM/Northbridge.

(if I'm not testing the things I named here please lol and correct me, cuz I wanna know as well)

During this time it depends, if I'm at the computer, then I run programs(nothing heavy, just word docs/internet pages/music etc.), if I have my pc stresstesting and I'm not around I'm just sleeping.

In addition I run the latest Coretemp and CPU-z, but that's it.

I did read Prime was made to find prime numbers, but thought Prime95 was not the version to do this
But anyway, me I just run the test and then only use the rig for web browsing and watching films

16 Hours blend stable

I use the Small FTT's test for CPU stability...and usually just run a custom Blend, with FTT length starting at 1024, and using ~2.2GB's of RAM, for NB stability.

*1Hr small FTT's and 6-8hrs for any Blend test should be sufficient for stability...after a certain point, extended testing becomes more a 'heat stability test' than anything..

I web browse while running Prime95.
