Yes, the X850XTPE is the fastest, but it's not as future-proof. The Geforce 6800GT has Shader Model 3.0 support while the Radeon only has SM2.0 support. You may have heard that NVidia's cards have been failing SM3.0 tests, but that is all BS made public through ATI. More games are utilizing SM3.0 now, so I think it would be better to get a 6800GT. Even though it is slower, graphical quality will be better and it should last you longer than a X850XTPE will. Also, 6800GT's can OC to 6800 Ultra's pretty well (this is from experience with the PCIe versions, don't know about AGP versions, but should be the same).

Oh, and AGP 6800GS's are coming out soon. Should be a pretty sweet deal. Look here: http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/5865...-agp-soon.html.

I too had a very very hard decision deicidng on the card..i really wanted the x850xt pe because i heard how fast it was(ven though it doesnt really seem to be, only in half life 2 engined games)..unfortunately it supports old tech and the difference in speed is marginal at best..also im not sure your brand prefence but get this..the MSI 6800 ultra i bought comes with an overclocking tool called DOT, which im sure they would have on the 6800gt also..it overclocks all the way to 10%..so i bought what i thought was a standard 6800 ultra and with the click of a button it goes from 400/1100 to 440/120 all udner warranty..but im not sure how easy it is to find AGP 6800 series anymore

Uh, x800 Pro VIVO's don't flash to an x850XTPE, most x850 ProVIVO's flash to XTPE though, and they don't usually come with a "crazy" cooler (I assume you mean the x850 XTPE cooler like the one on this PCI-E Pro http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ct_Code=190378, but most AGP Pro's come with a wimpy cooler that dosn't cool the BGA RAM).

The 6800Ultra is close to the X850XT but its more expensive, uses more power and runs hotter.

So the X850XT/PE is the better deal imo.
Very nice!

The 6800 Ultra AGP is out of production (I think), and it goes for around $550, which is more than the 7800 GTX.

Why would you go for an Ultra when a GT can OC to an Ultra easily? GT's also cost a lot cheaper, less then $300.

I think the absolute best bang for your buck card would be a 6800. Unlock it to 16/6 and then overclock it to 6800Ultra core speed, and around 900mhz on the RAM.. It wont be too much of a drop off from getting a 6800GT or X850xtpe.
