Intel Burn Test...how much is 'enough'..? - Page 9

I assume that I was suffering the problem that NoodleGTS was describing, but not to worry, as I have passed 50 runs of Intel Burn Test on maximum Have stopped testing temporarily while my girlfriend is around, she doesn't like the noise of fans while sleeping. Will resume on Monday. I agree that LinX requires some optimization for the next release, although I suppose it is free software so I can't really complain.

Like Two Cables was getting at, "Max" can mean anything. You need to make sure of the problem size. The closer the problem size is to the amount representing all installed RAM (since each problem size corresponds to a certain amount of memory), the more rigorous the test is, and the more it represents utter stability. ~25,000+ for 6 GiB for example.

I read OP and scimmed the rest. Gonna give my 2 cents anyway. You can't rely on one test solely to call your system stable. There is not one test that trumps all others. Orthos, Linpack(Linx and others), prime and many other tests all stress a little differently. I've passed Linpack and failed Orthos and prime and vice versa. I've also had OCs that have passed everything, but when it came time to game my systems locked. So all I can say is stress test and then stress test some more. Running unstable OC is the #1 cause of CPU degradation.

Personally, memtest86 is one of the most unreliable tests out there. I've used it many times for it to pass even with settings that were so unstable they couldn't even boot windows.

I suggest running everything you got. Then call it stable.

Prime, Orthos, OCCT, Linx, IBT.....use all available settings, large and small data set, blended. You just can't test enough.

I use Linx, same thing but a better UI in my opinion.

30 runs with all RAM tested is good enough for me, prime95 is a complete watse of time as I have had 24hr Prime95 stable overclocks fail Linx in mere minutes.

Pizzaman - Is your overclock stable?

I have had better results lately using 6-10x passes of IBT..and 2-4hrs of Blend with Prime. Since I have passed the above on my OC, I am no longer crashing after 1-2hrs of gaming at full Q settings.

Currently running the following for daily user:

P5B-DLX [mchv mod]
9800GTX
2x1 Viper's @ 1111mhz
E7400 @ 3.5ghz 1.23vcore
pci-e @ 104mhz

..LMAO! ..just laughing, because I never take screenies when its stable...just straight to gaming..I usually take a screeny about 20-30min after starting [if still passing] just for my records and settings
