Updating BF2

Thread Starter
I reinstalled BF2 today to play on my new 6800GS. It goes like this -

Install BF2 > Patch to v1.12 (latest) > Patch failed, click ok, patch succesful, click ok > fire up BF2 > black screen > desktop

Try again, reinstall BF2, same results.

Ok, so lets try this -

Download 1.02 and 1.03 > Install BF2 > Patch to 1.02 > Patch failed, click ok, patch succesful, click ok > fire up BF2, no problems...

Patch to 1.03 > patch failed, click ok, patch succesful, click ok > fire up BF2, seems fine > click multiplayer > desktop...

hmmm?

Patch to 1.12 > Patch failed, click ok, patch succesful, click ok > fire up BF2 > black screen > desktop

:***: .....

Just use 1.03, skip the other patches.

Install the game, patch right to 1.03 and then play. Everything should work fine then.

Also, what video drivers are you using? You need to use something over 77.30 for the game to work properly. You have directx 9.0c installed too right?

DirectX 9.0c is installed, I'm using 81.95 Forceware.

Will reinstall and try 1.03 alone

You might have to run a registry cleaner to get rid of bf2 fragments, but it should be fine.

This is off topic but I see in your signature that you want an audigy4, if you look at reviews you'll see that there's barely any difference between the audigy4 and the audigy2. If you're spending that much money, then get the x-fi.

ive had hassles with bf2 patching as-well, sometimes it says its patching and will continue to patch for ever and have to manually close it and sometimes it says it has worked, ive foound that if I go to my doduments\\battlefield 2 directory and delete the profiles it comes good, or even delete the whole directory altogether, im ati but thats what has happened to me( latest omega drivers), it also gets screwed up when patching f.e.a.r for some reason, the b2 colours are affected?? crazy got it sorted now though but not sure what i have done, just re-installed both games and are working again.

I thought the v1.12 patch was need to play with BF2:SF users (like me )?

Anyway, I had problems with the patch aswell. Get the EA downloader and download the patch from there, it seemed to work for me

This? http://overclock.co.uk/customer/prod...roductid=18941

Thats a typo, its an audigy2 ZS. Look at the picture, in the top right corner you can see the 2. The audigy 4 series is expensive, and not worth it.

Accurate pictures are not UK retailers strong point. I will email them and ask, I think it will be an Audigy 4

Nothing works. I install 1.12 and then the game won't load. I've gone down to 81.85 drivers...

Everytime I install a patch it says its failed and then its worked. It does work (for 1.02 and 03 anyway, where I can get into the game and check), so I assume it works for 1.12 as well, just the game won't load
