Static when adjusting volume levels on Speakers

Thread Starter
I have this annoying problem with my Boston Acoustics speakers. These things are amazing and I find it hard to believe that they came bundled with a computer, but they are getting old.
Is it normal to have static when adjusting the volume? The same thing happens with the sub-woofer knob: I didn't know sub-woofers could make that static sound. The problem goes away (I think) after the speakers are "warmed up," even if I'm not playing any music, just being on for a while makes it go away. It could also be related to ambient temperatures.

So what do you guys think? Are the speakers dying or is it just an issue with the knobs/potentiometers/whateverthehecktheyare?

Seems like if you swap the rheostats the problem should be fixed. Rheostats get worn out after being adjusted too many times and their resistance becomes faulty.
