Audio/headphones/baby monitor question

Thread Starter
My VERY base logitech headset broke yesterday. For my budget I have decided on the zalmac clip on mic and the JVC 900's (maybe the 700 depending on funds).

My first issue, I am guessing these do not come with a volume control, can you guys recommend something that I can control the volume while I am in game if I need to turn it down or up. Something like Koss makes?

I am thinking about upgrading my sound from onboard to a card. Before I do, and this will seem like a strange question, but you got to do what you got to do to game
I currently have a belkin rockstar. I have my headphones and mp3 player plugged into it. I listen to music while gaming. Helps so I dont have to hop out of the game to switch music. The MAIN reason I got it was so I could plug my baby monitor into it (baby coming this month) so that when she is sleeping, I can play some games, but at the same time hear her if she cries. Will a sound card allow me to plug the monitor into it and hear it the same way the belkin rockstar does?

Maybe for the volume control, I could just save money and skip the sound card and get the Creative Xmod?

I am not a huge Audiophile by the way. More of a budget guy.

It depends what connection the baby monitor has for outputting sound, is it just a 3.5mm headphone jack?

In that case, you should be able to connect it to the line-in jack on the soundcard and enable playback of the line-in device so that the sound plays in your headphones, this should work as you wanted - playing the sound from the baby monitor over the game/windows sounds.

Soundcard
Monitor: line-in
Headphones: output
Zalmac: mic

I have an Xmod and love it. Cannot get easier than a built in volume control knob, and it does have a built in line in/mic input. It alone cannot be used for the monitor and mic, but it can be used as a passthrough. Plug the monitor into it, then into the line in on the onboard sound. Output to the line in on the Xmod. This way you have adjustable volumes there (monitor has own, and master on Xmod....tap volume to mute), then your mic into mic port on the onboard card.

I don't know how to independently control the mic if necessary.

Xmod

Headphones: Xmod
Zalmac: mic
