Please anyone with a good soul help me out

Thread Starter
1. I bought two (2) 512mb PC-333 DDR memory sticks.

2. I bought PC-333 coz my mobo supports it (read the manual).

3. I installed them.

4. I fired up my PC.
4.1 My PC proceeded to the harddisk detections.
4.2 It proceeded to the Windows XP loading screen.
4.3 It proceeded to the login page.

5. This is the odd part, When I'm logged in totally to the system, my PC suddenly blacks out then RESTARTS. From 4.1 upto 4.3 again.* As in totally restarts by itself, without clicking any shutdown/log-off buttons.

6. When 2 sticks are installed, it does that. But when I remove the other one, It runs ok.

7. Maybe you might ask about these stuff, I've tried:
7.1 Swapping them to see if one of the memory is not working. They both work fine.
7.2 I'm sure that both of my memory slots are working fine.

8. Tried booting Safe Mode. It worked, maybe for about 10 seconds then does number 5 again.

Please help me with this problem. My other memory stick is kept in my cabinet as of now since I can't use it. and I paid 2,200 pesos (40$) for it to be tucked away in my cabinet.

*sometimes it proceeds to Windows, sometimes not at all (until 4.3 only then shuts down by itself)

Help me please. I'm really desperate.

Does your motherboard have duel chanel? If so, did you install the memory in the correct slots? If it doesn't have duel chanel try setting the command rate to 2T. Sometimes that will help. Also run memtest with each stick separately to see if one is bad. All of these things should help you narrow down the problem.

If what Fishie36 said dosen't work, RMA both sticks of memory just to be safe, I would suspect it is Value Memory, seeing as how it was only $40., by the way make sure that you have everything at stock, sometimes I've gone into my bios and settings were all odd and offset.

@Sir fishie, i'm not quite sure about that duel channel thing. I'm new at these things so I don't know most of those stuff. And how can i memtest my memory sticks? is that thru a software or the bios?

@Sir lightsource, what is RMA and how do i do it?

Memtest: http://www.memtest.org/ - I believe you can put it on a dos-formatted floppy disk.

"RMA" stands for Return Merchandise Authorization. This means that you require authorization to return any product. After submitting an RMA request online, you will receive an RMA number.

What type of memory did you buy?

I'm not sure, I've never had memtest on a floppy. I'm pretty sure they've got an faq on it. I personally, couldn't tell you what to do.

One thing you might want to try, make sure the ram is running at its rated spec for voltage and timings. I know when pandapimp and I were setting up his rig we couldn't get it to work with both sticks of his RAM to work at the same time no matter what. Until we added tons more voltage and then we realised that the timings were 3-3-3-7 for some reason and his RAM is rated for 3-4-4-8 at the DDR500 speed. So check those timings and if they are correct, up the voltage 2 notches and see if it helps.
