Changing voltages on X800XL?

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Does anyone know of a program that will let me either simply up the voltage on or swap the BIOS on my X800XL? It is a 1st party ATI unit. My goal is to have it run at 500/1000 (400/1000 now, 432/1090 max OC) so it will be as fast as a X800XT. I have sufficient cooling (40c idle, 53c MAX load) so I think it will be ok 2-3 notches higher in voltage. So....if anyone can give me some advice and also link me to such a program that would be great.

You need to flash the bios through DOS. All you do is get a bios editing program like x-bios editior, save your current bios rom, open it up with the bios editor and change the core voltage and whatever else you want. Sometimes you can adjust things like fan speed in the bios so you might want to and you can also change the default clocks.

The x800xl's arent known to overclock very well, in fact lots of them wont do much over stock. Good luck with that though, I hope it works out good. If you need anymore help let me know.

EDIT

That software thing is correct, you cant just do it on-the-fly through software, you need to do a bios flash. Which is still a softmod rather than a voltmod which is a hardware modification (hardmod).

Uh oh. Every time I try to dump my BIOS (both with ATI Tray Tools and ATITools) and open it up with any BIOS editing programs I DL I get all sorts of errors. 1 was about the BIOS not being signed and the rest are just plain errors (error N5 and etc.) Also Val, Xbios is only for NVIDIA cards, will it still work?

Also, ATITool says it can change voltages, anyone know where this option would be?

Lol, so am I I still have not found a way to do this and am still looking for suggestions. I basically only need to up the voltage on my GPU since I can only OC to 432 stable and I want to get atleast up to 500. I am willing to even take it .5v higher than it is now considering my very low temps, so does anyone know of program to do this?

P.S. if I kill the card, I am highly likely to get a X1800XT so don't bother warning me about the dangers, lol. but don't think I am TRYING to kill the card, I would much rather wait and get a G80/R580 in about 2 months.

This is NOT what I am willing to do! I will only attempt this if it is purely software. I would ideally want some program to allow me to dump a BIOS to it, change the default voltage and then save it and flash. Although I am willing to try a boot disc also, I don't have a floppy, so only CDs. Am I asking far too much or can this be done? Also i don't really want to go over 1.4v, would this maybe take me to 500 core and 1000 mem (already at 1000 mem so just a core increase).

Alright, first of all atitool cannot change the voltages, at least I've never known it to be able to. Where did you see that?

You need to download a bios editing tool, look on guru3d there's plenty of them on there. Open it, select save bios and then open that file. Bump the vcore, whats the default on that card? 1.2 or 1.3? Anyways, 1.4 should be sufficient, but it wont help the ram OC. You need to do a vdimm hardmod for that.

If you give it .5v more then you will kill the card. Going from around 1.3 to 1.8 would be very bad for the card, especially, and it wouldnt last very long. You need to flash the bios through dos no matter what. As far as I know, only leadtek has a windows flashing utility.
