I'm pretty sure you can. You would have 2 chanels of 768 each, so the size would match. But it would probably have to run at 2T and will only be as fast as the slowest module. Check with your motherboard manuel.

Yes, you absolutely can run two different sets of matched pairs in dual channel (at least on Asus boards but likely on all). The DIMMs on each channel must meet the criteria for dual channel, of course, but the pairs can have different specs. You will likely only get the speed and timings of the slower pair, but you'll get the extra speed that comes with dual channel.

Check out the RAM config instruction for my mobo for more info (here page 2-12, section 2.4.2, item 3 and the text between the tables on the following page).

I would really encourage you to check out your mobo manual before making your purchase. The manual I linked above was very clear that this scenario would work, but other manufacturers may have different capabilities built into their boards. The quick check would be well worth the time.

I just had this same setup you are asking about. All four sticks were same speed and company and yadda yadda yadda. They were the same. But for some reason my computer seems to operate a touch faster with just one or the other in. I of course went with 512x2. I dont know what this happened, but it is that way. There may be other varibles that i am not looking at, but i am satisfied and am looking at getting some better RAM anyways. 512 x 4 Hyper X But i dont know if i want to hold out on that until my next computer project...ummm decisions decisions
