What is the exact model number of your ram?

I'm trying to figure out what ram to get and I like the thought of "it works with EZ-OC out of the box".
Well, I tried to do a 1-hour OCCT run using the Small Data Set and the system shut down and automatically re-booted. I think it was after about 10 or 15 minutes, but I can't be sure, as I wasn't there when it happened and no log files or dump files were created. The Medium Data Set still runs fine. I may need to up the vcore some. Any thoughts?

Yup, that sounds like the solution. Small data set stress the CPU, and if it's not getting enough volts, its going to restart.

its scary to look a the ocz forum and see the posts of people w./ the same mobo and same model memory having problems. sofar I haven't really had any problems, other than being unfamiliar w/ oc'ing i7 cpus/mobos. i've already found a stable oc of over 40%, and i'm just trying to tighten things up.

I wonder if I'm just oblivious somehow to problems. I didnt test the other 3 ramslots yet. I've done some stress testing/gaming and no problems sofar.... prime 95, IBT, occt, games, etc all seem to be fine
post #124 of 329
I tested my other memory slots and they worked fine. I just wish I could get this chip stable to at least 4.0ghz but I can't seem to get it. =( Maybe I'm going to have to start playing with more VTT voltage...

OK. FINALLY got it to pass OCCT Small Data Set for 1 hour. Had to up the "Voltage Offset" in the BIOS from the EZ OC 4.0ghz default of +0.21875 to +0.24375. That was it. OCCT screen shot and OCCT vcore/cpu2 png files attached. Also, here are some of the other BIOS settings I used:

Overclock Mode = Manual
BCLK Frequency = 200
PCIE Frequency = 100
Boot Failure Guard = Enabled
Spread Spectrum = Auto
CPU Ratio Setting = 20
QPI Frequency = 7.200GT
Uncore Frequency = Auto
DRAM Frequency = 600mhz (DDR3 1200)
XMP Technology = Auto
DRAM Timing Control = All settings were "Auto", which resulted in 9-9-9-23-68-10-5-5-5-24 1T
ASRock VDrop Control = Without VDrop
CPU Voltage = Overdrive Offset
Voltage Offset = + 0.24375v
DRAM Voltage = Auto
IOH Voltage = Auto
VTT Voltage = 1.480v
ICH Voltage = Auto
IOH CSI Voltage = Auto
IOH/ICH PCIE Voltage = Auto
CPU PLL Voltage = 1.90v

CPU Ratio Setting = 20
Enhanced Halt State = Enabled
Intel Virtulization tech = Enabled
CPU Thermal Throttling = Enabled
No-Execute Memory Protection = Disabled
Intel HT Technology = Enabled
Active Processor Cores = All
A20M = Disabled
Intel SpeedStep tech = Enabled
Intel C-State tech = Disabled

Intelligent Energy Saver = Disabled
CIR10 Field 1 = Enabled
PCIE Max Payload Size = 128
Intel VT-d = Disabled

Seems to run a little warm compared to my q9650 also overclocked to 4ghz. From what I've been reading, most of these i7's do run relatively hot when all 8 threads are max loaded. The feature I like most about this board and the "Overdrive Offset" setting in the BIOS is how it dynamically raises or lowers the vcore according to load. At idle and when cruising the internet, the vcore is usually in the 1.18v to 1.20v range. Very cool.

Hope this helps.
