The ASUS/ASrock P55 and X58 Club & Discussion(Under construction) - Page 15

First-time build, first attempt at overclocking, and I was lucky enough to get EZ settings to work well up to about 3.8 with decent temps (34 idle, 68 load). I'm hearing from the Tom's forums that I'd better get off the EZ and tweak the settings manually, to find my system's sweet spot and avoid over-volting... but none of them seem to have experience with this board and the BIOS settings don't match up with their recommendations...

So, after reading every post in this thread, every review of the ASRock X58 Extreme that I can find, and all the lousy, incomplete and confusing stuff put out by ASRock in their materials and website... I'm finally ready to give it a go!

Problem is, I can't seem to do the most basic thing in the BIOS, adjust the BCLK Frequency... does it need to be unlocked somehow before it can be changed? The CPU multiplier also seems to be locked down...?

Anyone here able to give me a simple Step 1, Step 2, Step 3 to get me started?

Thanks in advance...!

Its in the OC Tweaker Menu. set overclock mode to manual. set your ram to its reccomended timings and voltages. then try getting to 3.2 ghz. set the cpu voltage to 1.25. It is much easier for me w/ vdrop off. You can read up on qpi and uncore recommendations in various links in this thread and elsewhere. I can't remember some of that stuff off the top of my head right now since I'm about to head off to class.

When I change the mode to Manual, I am unable to change the BCLK... can you simply change it to whatever you want? Do I have to unlock something somewhere to make it so I can change it?

hold shift and press + i think. that will make it go up. you just press - to go down. Is that the problem you're getting?

Man, do I feel like Homer Simpson about now...

No need to hold shift, simply pressing + or - changes the value, just like it says in the legend on the right, which I obviously didn't look at closely enough.

All the other menus seem to open up by pressing Enter, after which you use the arrows to scroll up or down... that's what I was expecting on BCLK.

Now that that drama is over, I get get on to Step 1...

I cant pass IBT when i run very high / max (over 4gb memory)
i can successfully pass IBT if i run each stick alone in slot DDR3_A1, but if I try running dual or trichannel, i fail IBT. the computer doesnt crash or anything...
Looks like the reason for the instability was the mobo afterall. i was hoping it was maybe one of the sticks.

The slots work okay... its just if I run dual or tri channel (more than 1 stick in), then I can't pass IBT. the system and games dont crash on me tho....
You can pass IBT @ maximum w/ 8 threads? i cant pass 2 runs of IBT because the 2nd result is different from the 1st...
