You can add me to the club. I just bought the ASRocks P55 Extreme, and was lucky enough to will a free ASRock SATA3 Card. I will start building the computer this week and will be watching this forum for tips and suggestions.

so yeah i love how when i bought the x58 extreme it had like perfect reviews on newegg 40 or so 5 egg reviews in a row, and then right after I buy it (i get a faulty one) and so do a million other people. I'm definitely not gonna buy asrock again, and I think i'm gonna stay at 3.6 just to be safe even tho my d0 should go much much higher

I finally got my ASRock x58 Extreme, as well as the rest of my sig rig. Except of course the :swearing: Samsung Spingpoint F3 1Tb hard drive... It was out of stock on all the main sites I buy from, ended up finding it after a few days, but it won't arrive until the 9th. That's like 4 days of pure torture.

So yeah, there isn't anything I can really do yet, as even the linux live CD's I tried to boot all cried about there being no hard drive. But it was worth a try!

Still, everything powers up at least and seems to be functioning all right. The ram is only showing as 1066, but I'm pretty sure it's common. I haven't attempted to mess with the timings. The OC tweaking section did show the 8-8-8-24-1600@1.65v setting down at the bottom, so I think I could use the easy OC feature to set it properly. All I would have to do is enabled the ram easy OC to load that setting correct?

Hey. I am building a new machine and I think I have my mobo choice narrowed down to EVGA E760 CLASSIFIED "Overclocker's Pick" 3-Way SLI + PhysX 1366 Intel X58 EATX Intel Motherboard - Retail or ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail.

This is one of the only places I've found anyone discussing the P6X58D so I thought I would ask for some advice on picking between these two. The rest of the build will be Antec P193 case, i7 920, Antec CP-580 PS,Crucial Ballistix 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800), EVGA GeForce GTS 250, 2 - Western Digital RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB 7200.

Any advice for an overclocking newbie will be greatly appreciated. Especially if any of my listed items are garbage and I should stay away from them.

Thanks

Heres what I think:

The EVGA board is VERY high end, and they guarantee quality, BUT there is no USB 3.0 or SATA 6GB/s on it, and since those are going to be mainstream in Q1-Q2 2010, you'd be looking at getting an upgrade in 6-8 months. W/ the P6X58D, you'll already have some USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s to use, so you may not need to upgrade as soon. Your also looking at $299 vs $400. I wouldn't pay $400 for a board that doesn't have USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s right now, especially when those will become mainstream soon.

the P6X58D is great. haven't run into any major issues. just some confusions here and there mainly because i wasn't familiar with the bio's setting and the architecture, i wrote a review on newegg's p6x58d page under kckyle(OCNDotcom) hope this helps
