The Asrock web site should state what items are supposed to ship with the mbd. See:

I seem to be missing the SLI bridge(s), I will see what I can do to get the appropriate replacements.
They're easy enough to get off eBay.

Meanwhile, if it's of any use to others, I recently posted an example list of settings for
an i7 870 @ 4143MHz on an Asrock P55 Deluxe (with HT on):

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/439224-core-i7-4ghz-club-poll-added-64.html#post13660975

The same system will happily do 4410 with HT off.

Key lesson learned in more recent 870 oc'ing work: if you're finding it hard to get over 4GHz,
add a little more PCH/PLL and try again. I was amazed at the difference when increasing
these from 1.16/1.84 to 1.175/1.862 respectively. At the lower settings, the system was barely
able to sustain 4GHz with HT off, and Vcore had to be as high as 1.39. After the increase, it
ran just fine at 4GHz with HT on, and this with a Vcore of 1.3.

Maybe it had such a profound effect because the system I was working on had two gfx cards
and 2 x 4GB RAM.

I can't (alas no time), but just curious (and perhaps the info may help others decide
if they can help), what's involved with maintaining it? What do you have to do?

Myeh, maybe, but we're still here! Note that I've been posting mainly in the i3 thread as atm
I'm working on oc'ing an i3 550, but I do also have an 870 oc'd system to redo (sig system, but
I've learned more since I set that up, so I'm going to do it again), an i5 760, an i7 875K, and kinda
the equivalent of an i7 940 on an Asrock X58 Exrteme6, so I'll be posting here when I've sorted all
these out (the chip on the Extreme6 is actually a XEON X5570 which is 2.93GHz but has 50%
faster QPI than the consumer chips).

Good to see you're using a 300 case too. 8)

Cool.

What's your advice on Overclocking? I read a few threads and thought I'd try using the ASUS Turbo program to do the basic OC on the processor. It seemed to work ok but I ended up putting it back to stock after if seemed like something was burning up.

Mbd maker's apps are fine for a basic oc, but it's worth doing properly IMO if one is going
to do it at all.

My starting point was to read a number of overclocking guides and also to make sure
I had a good understanding of the chip's design, to understand what's happening when
one is fiddling with different elements. Example background refs:

http://anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3639
http://anandtech.com/show/2869

I also read through the later parts of this thread when P55 i7s started to appear:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...oll-added.html

And see if you can find a thread that's dedicated to your particular model of mbd, there may be
several on various sites.

The main overclocking guide I've used though is Miahallen's:

http://www.techreaction.net/2010/09/...ide-lynnfield/

Isolating VTT/RAM issues, temps & voltages before even thinking about dealing with the main oc
and vcore is really important. Set a target goal based on your chosen cooling solution, decide on a
target bclk to match (baring in mind your RAM's limits), find out what VTT is required to hit that
target, assuming your board can cope. Then do the same for the RAM. Then for bclk + RAM. Once this
is done, sorting out the main CPU oc should just be a matter of vcore only since bclk/VTT/RAM has
already been dealt with, though note I found some extra PLL can help too for oc's over 4GHz.

I've learned a lot since I first did my 870 build. I'm going to redo it soon, change the HS orientation,
redo the oc from scratch. I'm sure I can do better than the 4.27 I have atm.

Btw, test the tasks you intend to run to see if they benefit from HT. If not, turning it off will reduce
core temps by 10C, allowing for a higher clock. I could run at 4270 with HT on, or 4444 with HT off;
the latter was better for most games, the former is better for video encoding. Irony is, if you don't
need HT, then possibly a 760 would have been a better buy.

Ian.

PS. Thanks for the PM! Perhaps best just to post here though so that our experiences can benefit all.
