It's good you set it at 256.
Do other x58 boards offer higher payloads? I didn't see this mentioned in any reviews, but I do remember reading that some ASUS x58 board only allowed 128 as a setting.

I've had a few boards that have had a payload up to 512. Ultimately you won't see a big difference, it just sucks not getting the best performance, but realistically, buying a budget board never did that. =P

i didnt see any evidence of pricecutting in benchmark comparisons though in the tomshardware x58 mobo comparison, as well as others.

hmmm, I am running 4ghz now stable enough to play games an run 3dmark. it doesnt goover 68c while gaming, but if i run prime95, it'll shoot up to 86c and i stop or else it'll keep climbing. >_<

i got cpu voltages @ 1.32 atm. i'll try to lower them.

If you have no use for HT, you can turn it off, to reduce required vCore, and subsequently increase distance to TjMax, as well.

Are you sure TIM application was done well? Mounting pressure? Ambient temps (room or case)?
