RAM recommendations/suggestions

Thread Starter
hello everyone,

I am purchsing a new rig soon and i am looking at RAM.

I have come to a choice of several 512mb * 2 DIMM's ( 1 Gb total).

#1: Corsair TwinX XMS3200 which is supposedly able to run at 2-3-3-6, is that correct?

Just one question, what is the max speed this RAM will run at (through experience, not reviews because i have read alot of them), also what timings?

What about the OCZ 1gig KIT (2 x 512meg) DDR400 EL GOLD EDITION GX XTC are they reliable and stable at those timings? what is thier max Mhz?

thanks alot for you time

OverClocking for life...

Boris

That stuff is the TWINX 1024 3200C2 which is 2-3-3-6 for INTEL .

A better choice would be the TWINX 1024 3200XL at 2-2-2-5 as it uses the TCCD modules, see image.

This..is also worth a look at AU $250.00, it is the same ballpark as the CORSAIR 3200C2 modules.
cheers

My personal preference is for the G.SKILL over the OCZ. I will be endevouring to purchase some for my new upgrade in Jan 06.

Check out www.pccasegear for the one of the best ranges of G.SKILL in Australia.
The F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX 2Gb (2x1024Mb)..here..is most probally the best 2 x 1024Mb modules around at AU $365.00.

OCZ is hard to obtain over here (well the better overclocking stuff) and way overpriced.

cheers

Actually the 3200C2 is rated to run 2-3-3-6 on AMD platforms. it was just the early versions that didn't run that tight. Corsair updated the IC's and now they run 2-3-3-6 on both Intel and AMD. and that RAM will go to around DDR500 usually.

if you want TCCD you should take a look at OCZ platinum rev. 2 you can get a 1gb kit w/ a rebate from newegg so it's only about 150 when you're done. plus it will go to around DDR600 usually.

You gotta be carefull there with them I run the 3200C2 5.1 version on a XP2600+ at 2-3-3-6 but only on a 192MHz fsb.

if you hitting the 200MHZ fsb they can get a bit jumpy but as they say it all depends on the specific modules you get and your system.

BTW: we in Australia so no newegg for us............read location people it get's a bit annoying sometimes 'we all don't live and shop in the USA' !
