Increasing RAM. Yes or not

Thread Starter
Hi
thinking about increasing ram from currently 3x1gb to 6x1gb. Thing is that Northbridge temp. is now 62 Celsius at idling. Id like to ask if I increase ram will go NB temp. higher? Do I need another fan? Or should I stick with 3gb ram for everyday pc use and some gaming? Or should I buy it for use in the near future? Thanks for help

More RAM can never hurt. Put a fan on the NB and you should be all set.

more sticks the more stress on the north bridge. at least from what i hear. if you get more ram sell what u got and get 2 gig sticks. then water cool your north bridge
post #6 of 16
Depends on if you need more ram. If you are doing .running intense memory apps then yes. But then after a certain amount it will never get used anyway. But it is cheap enough now to get 6gig and not even second thought it.

yea get a fan on there and reapply some TIM and go for it, worst case scenario you can get an after market northbridge cooler but ive heard of the x58 running over at 70 degrees no problem

Its an I7, the memory controller is on the cpu not the N-bridge. So adding memory wont put anymore strain on it...

Infact technicaly the x58 (and P55's) boards don't have a n-bridge....

There we go.

Add more ram, or better yet, buy another set of 3x2gigs for faster performance. 3 Gigs is just not enough for gaming these days. For all x58s, the nb gets very hot. However it is nothing to worry about unless it goes 80-100 degrees c.

Of course that is according to Asus and evga (re rampage II/classified). I worry about my NB temp on my classified too however it is up to you whether a fan/new paste will guarantee you peace of mind or not.
