AMD Single Core - Discussion Only - Page 12

3GHz is going to be impossible on air cooling, especially with that processor. You'd need at least phase change to pull that off. I might be able to get 2.6GHz or 2.7GHz out of it, but the ClawHammers are older chips and don't generally overclock really well.

Best thing for you to do is give up on the hopes of 3GHz, cause it just isn't going to happen on that chip without phase change (which'll run you about $800). A good heatsink is the Thermalright XP-120 with a good 120mm, or the Thermaltake Big Typhoon. Should help you get into the 2.6-2.7GHz range while maintaining good temperatures.

thanks

The Newark core mobiles are quite capable of 3GHz on air. I had one that did it... They're hard to find though, but Newegg carries the 4000+ versions, but it's quite pricey. I'd also suggest returning that motherboard and getting something wortwhile like an ASUS, Abit, MSI, or DFI.

okay i think i'm jsut gonna have the fsb at 250 and the multiplier at 10 or 11 which ever is more stable/performs better. i have another question, i bought an evga 6800(not gt or ultra) agp (128mb) and i cant' touch the memory or core bandwidth. I would move one like 2 mhz and i would test (using nvidia's utility) and fail every time. I tried upping the voltage and nothing. I've tried rivatuner and coolbits,. i have a 500 watt power supply sending 26 amps down my 12 volt rail. My mother board is a dfi nforce3 ut gb. I'm lost....i've tried nvidia's drivers and extreme g's modded drivers. and nothing. i don't understand. would it help to put some as5 on it. would that help...maybe it's a heationg issue.....but the temperature reads 57 c just about all the time..which i think is a safe temperature. anway any help from anyone would be veryu appreciative.
thanks

First thing I would try to do is update your video card drivers to the latest off the nVidia site. If that doesn't work, download Riva Tuner. Then, after you install it, open it up and go to the Power User Tab, then down the list, expand the Riva Tuner 2.0RC 15.7 \\ NVIDIA \\ Overclocking section, and then check the box next to DisableInterClockTest, and it'll turn that stuff off so you can overclock freely.

sweet.....i didn't see that before..first it didn't work by simpley checking it, i had to set the value to 1 so that the internet test was disabled and someother test starts and it workst.....thanks bro. do you recomend windows xp 64 or 32....i know the 64 is theoreticalllly faster but when i used it i didn't see a noticable difference.

funny when i have it overclocked i get less 3dmark points than when using default speeds...i unlock the vertex shader but not the pixel pipline.i guess i'm gonna keep it at default speeds......or should i raise my cards voltage or agp bus speed.....hmmmmm

Thread Starter
Try to keep these topics in the Nvidia section of this forum Joshin as this is the AMD single core thread and this has nothing to do with processors.

Thanks.
