I just ordered my DFI UT NF4 Ultra-D mb. I think most people will say DFI if you plan to OC. I still can't decide on a CPU. either a Opty 146 or an Athlon 3700 SD. Any suggestions?? I plan on doing a little bit of OC with the stock cpu fan and 4 fans in the case.

Also what mobo for 146 DFI SLI-DR, DFI UT SLI_DR Expert, ASUS A8N Premium or ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe.
Cheers for help.
If you can afford the Expert get that. Otherwise any DFI nF4 board that suits your requirements eg. SLI etc.

Whichever you can get the cheapest tbh.

Even the "worst" steppings are still great. I had a CABGE that I could get to 2.8Ghz with a bit of coaxing

Thanks for anyones help.

Could someone tell me if the 148 CABNE 0530 APMW is as good a stepping as it is on the 146.

If you can get one of those for a decent price then I'd definitely go for it. I'd estimate 2.9Ghz upwards on air

Is this a good stepping for an Opty 148 CABYE 0543FPMW ??

Would it do better than a 3700+ SD or the same.

Also would the following memory timing effect the amount I can OC or does it not matter much performance wise.

Timing: 2.5-3-3-7
Voltage 2.6

also would I see about the same performance from a Opty 148 @ 2.6-2.7 compaired to a 3200+ @ 2.4-2.6 in gaming. Would OC the graphics card show more of a performance than OC'ing the cpu??

Thanks for any help

A CABYE 0543FPMW will overclock pretty well and I would choose that over a 3700SD. Go for it!

With any OC it is about luck and the way the key components play together .. nicely hopfully.

Both 3700+ & 148 CPUs are good, of the two I would tend to lean towards the 148, there appears to be more probability that it will OC better... and maybe get 2.9-3G on good Air.

Memory is always a wide open question... for ultimate speed then BH /UTT will give you that edge.. for real world apps - 1Gb modules are a key element. Whatever memory getting it to fit into the CPU max speed will then allow fo the system to breath faster, it will take some time to see what dividers will work for the given CPU speed.

Gaming will be effectively the same for whatever same CPU, the L2 cache will help a wee bit too, hence the 148 over a 3200+ as the 148 has a larger cache.

Memory timings do not really affect overall performance for real world apps. Getting the CPU as fast as you can has a greater effect.

So a stick of 1Gb memory is better than 2-512mb Dual Channel?
