FAQ: PhysX - Page 6

Just bought my GTX 480. Where do I enable PhysX in games? Game settings? Or is it somewhere Nvidia Control Panel? I don't have any PhysX game atm and I'm away from home right now so I can't check my "problem".

Hi all,

Originally had 8800GT's in SLi then upgraded to a single BFG 260GTX 216 Maxcore 55, this card on its own beats my old SLi setup by far in how games appear & the speed that they run.

In case anyone is having the same idea that i had and use the 260GTX for main gamming & 1 of the 8800GT's for Physx DO NOT BOTHER.

Didn't uninstall any drivers i just shut down, installed the 8800GT, rebooted then installed the drivers for that card same as the 260GTX.

Benchmarked before mixed setup & single 260GTX and results were what i expected, you might as well use the GTX on its own & save the electric & sell the old cards.

I used Crysis Warhead, UT3 & Far Cry 2 for benchies, the difference was actually 1 fps in favour of single card setup.

This is just some info in case others wanted to know like i did hope it helps someone out though.

Anyone want to buy 2 x 8800GT's ? best offers ?

I know SP is the spec I should be concerned with most, but what about amount of RAM ? I'm torn between a XFX core edition GTS 250 512 or 1 GB...pairing it with a 5970...i wanna go with the 1GB just for ay xtra frame rate( didn't spend this much to get cheap now)

Hey, guys, I have a question - since I don't have a second PCI-E slot, I was wondering if I could purchase a PCI video card like this and use it to run PhysX?

Here's the link:

Thanks!

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...9400gt_us.html

that specific GPU has no PHYSx support so no not with that card, however if you find a physX ready GPU that is on a PCI slot, than i dont see why not!

here is a list of PHYSx ready GPUs

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_gpus.html

i know it says physx ready but if you want to give it a shot go ahead i want to see wut happens, but nvidia says its not supportive, it may be a typo

Lo chaps,

Just read through the thread but I still can't decide wether to use a GTS 250 as a dedicated PhysX card. My cfg is as follows:

AMD Phenom II X4 965BE @ 3.7GHz 1.4375V
4GB Kingston HyperX 1600MHz 7 7 7 27 33 1T @ 1.7V
ZOTAC nVidia GeForce GTX480 AMP!
WD:Caviar Black 640GB 32MB
Corsair HX750W

I've read tons of threads concerning using a gts250 with a GTX480. The problem is that some people say the GTS 250 would bottleneck the GTX 480 and thus it'd only cause lower performance but some people claim that pairing a GTS 250 with a GTX 480 is quite beneficial. *sigh* I really don't know what to do. I'd like to try this "feature" out but I'm a bit afraid that all in all it'd only cause lower performance.

All your aswers are greatly appreciated!

well, im no nvidia pro, but logic can tell you a lot, ok, physx is a pretty demanding feature in games, so to have only 1 GPU do physx and everything else. would lower performance, but if you take the physx load off of the GTX 480 than you could have the GTS run all ur physx and give your GTX 480 more headroom to do other stuff, thats just wut i think, try it out, wuts the harm?

and also @ XX55XX yeh you can do physx with that card, its not a typo

nvidia control panel will enable it, but you will only see a difference in games that have physx support.
