I have a Sapphire 6970, and was wondering if the Zalman VF700-CU "2 Ball VGA Cooler" would fit my card. I am not satisfied with my stock leafblower-style cooler, as it sounds like a jet taking off on any fan speed over 40%.

I don't even know if it would fit, but it's way too weak, odds are you may heat up worse and all for a decrease in noise. There's a few aftermarket air coolers that would fit the 6970.

Accelero Twin Turbo Pro
Accelero Xtreme Plus (you need VR001 RAM kits sold seperately to fit on a 6970)

Scythe Setsugen (It takes up the least space, fairly quiet, but it's cooling performance probably the worst out of the listed)
(I think it will fit, not 100% sure)

Shaman and Accelero Xtreme Plus probably cool the best while being the quietest, but are the most expensive. Twin Turbo Pro is the cheapest and I figure should fit on a 6970 as it fits on my 6950(6950 and 6970 practically identical in design), it's quiet and cools decently too. VF3000A and Icy Vision seem to be close/identical in design, cool well and are quiet too, just that I hear the VF3000A at higher fan speeds can be a bit loud. Just know that any of these aftermarket coolers will eat up 2 more slots(Shaman eats up 3 additional slots making it a total of 4 slots of card+cooler) in your case and all of them blow air into the case rather than exhaust it out the back, so make sure you got space.

Thanks for all the helpful info; I am considering the Twin Turbo Pro as it seems to have the most "bang for your buck" and I am, alas, a poor college student. I am not worried about the space it will take up in my case, since all I have in my PCI slots at the moment is my 6970.

Are the Crossfire tabs on the cards covered by these coolers?

The heat pipes on my Scythe Setsugen 2 actually cover part of one of the crossfire tab on my xfx 5770.

Im running crossfire now with XFX/Sapphire cards, and it only works with the Setsugen 2 on the bottom card.

I wanna change the cooler on my Sapphire card (egg shaped cooler) due to the noise. I would like to use the same one as you, and i have 3 small 50x10mm fans i can put on it.

The S1 will almost certainly cover the crossfire ports. The good thing about the Accelero S1 is the Aluminium fins are very soft so can be cut with some heavy duty kitchen scissors. Not sure whether a heatpipe would still be in the way though. Or you can bend the fins enough to pass the connector through. That being said there are probably better cooling solutions for crossfired cards.

Hello Everyone, I've been trying to find a Upgraded VGA cooler that would fit an Asus EAH5670 1gb ddr5, but no luck. i'm wondering if anyone here has found anything, or, if anyone know if the mounting is the same as another card? maybe i could get one from a 5770 or something of that nature? Thanks for any help!

Clos.
sorry, i'm the FNG around here

Just a note, since I'm not sure many people who get 6950s look for them, the EK FC6870 fit on my non-reference MSI Frozr II 2GB without any problems.

Now I just have to get another one and a bridge to link the two cards tongue.gif
