weird problem HELP!!!! - Page 2

try running checkdisk, its in the properties tab when you right click on your hard drive in my computer. if that doesn't do anything, get out your windows cd and boot from it, you should be able to do checkdisk from there, there are also various utilies for hard drives that you can download from your manufactures website. run the diagnostics and see what it says. i had something like this a while back, but that was the hard drive becoming corrupted, so cross your fingers and hope its not the HD

well I ran the test. it said it couldn't complete it in windows so I had to restart and then it did the test. Everything looks fine. But my system is super slow. Now even CS:S is almost unplayable i get huge lagspikes. It takes about 20 sec. into each round to go away. *I know for a fact that it is not my iconnection* any suggestions what it could be? Also my HD TACH benchmarks: Random Access: 15.2ms Average Speed: 49.4 i don't know what that means but is that ok?

or is there any way that i could figure out what the problem is?

those times are really slow, the random access is the time it takes to get to a file, i dont know what the average time is though... OH i bet that its the average wright time (time to write a file) but most HD have a seek time of something like 8, and an average write time of 10-15. so something is deffinately wrong with your HD. did you try going to your HD's website and getting their diagnostic?

not yet. I can try but I guess its gonna be hard sence it is from a shi*y compaq.

EDIT: Well even if it is corrupt. it has to last till christmas. Could a broken HD cause any damage to other components?

the hard dirve wont damage any other components, the worst that would happen would be that you would lose all your data, so if you have a way to back it up (at least the important stuff) i sujjest that you do so.

yeah well there is nothing important on there right now. everything is backed up on my second comp. So i guess I will have to live with it till I get a new harddrive only 20 days
